Michael,
Just a question. Are you sure that the thread of the EGT ports in the
914 exhaust is M8..?
I have a recollection that mine are an AN thread.
I may be wrong.

Subject: | Hose Replacement |
Its been five years on our 914 so we're looking at changing hoses. We'd like suggestions
from those that have done this on how to do it efficiently and without
making a huge mess. Access to the water pump hoses seems difficult with the
exhaust system in place (muffler lies under the engine).

I removed the exhaust and replaced the oil hoses at the same time. I
used silcon hoses for the water hoses its only been 11 months but so
far they seem very good no weeps at all.

Hi Jim,
Definitely drop the muffler out! That will give you a clean shot at the
four radiator hoses. It will also allow a close inspection of the radiator
and the radiator springs.

Hi Alll,
I neglected to mention that I was looking for stainless steel bolts. My
concern is that if I used steel bolts that they would seize and be
impossible to remove.
Interestingly enough the bolt is listed in the parts catalog but without a
part number.. go figure

Hi Paul
Are you trying to obtain stainless because your studs
did in fact sieze? Be careful studs can take heat and be strong enough,
you may want to check with Lockwood?
Have a look here:

Hi Jim & Heather,
I'd proceed on the basis that you will make a huge mess as soon as
you unhook the coolant hose.
A kid's wading pool or similar would be useful for catching the
fluid, which in my experience goes everywhere that you don't have a
bucket placed !

Hi All,
Im resending everyone this list to hopefully excite you about the up
and coming Europa Fly-in on September 17th 18th at The Rough River
state park in KY. The hotel has just sent me a list of everyone
registered for those nights and I can't help but notice only about
half on the list below have registered. I would encourage you, if you
haven't to do so as soon as possible. They have no more rooms but
they do have cabins. This should be the largest gathering of Europa's
ever in the USA. If you need some more info feel free to e-mail me
off list. If your name is not on the below list but you are coming let
us know and we'll get you on.
Looking forward to seeing you all next month.
Best Regards,

You can avoid the mess by syphoning the coolant. Push a small plastic tube
all the way down to the radiator for this.

Thanks for the nudge Jeff...I'm one of those who've signed up, will be
attending, and procrastinated on booking a room. Is there anyone out
there who would like to share a cabin?

Re: Europa-List: Exhaust port bolts for 914Dave,
Might be close but not quite right.
an AN5 bolt has a diameter of 5/16th inch = 7.93mm and 24 tracks per
inch = 1.058mm pitch. The smaller diameter and the little difference
in pitch will allow an AN5 bolt to go into an M8 with the fine threaded
pitch of 1mm without problems for a small number of turns before it gets
to snug.
However, the manual calls for M8 * 6mm with fine threaded pitch of 1 mm

Michael,
Just a question. Are you sure that the thread of the EGT ports in the
914 exhaust is M8..?
I have a recollection that mine are an AN thread.
