Hi All,
Seems like most are planning to arrive Friday, so meetings could be on Saturday.
Some topics lend themselves to discussions around an airplane, i.e. cooling
issues, AirMaster Prop, VG install, Billet Fuel Pump. Others (MG, fuel safety,
fuel injection) would be better in a meeting room. Perhaps we could have a
couple of informal sessions at the airstrip, maybe Saturday morning after breakfast
(9:30 am?) and after lunch (1:30 pm?). Then a meeting room session Saturday
late afternoon (3:30 pm?).
We're interested in all of the suggested topics and think it would be a good idea
to tentatively set topics & approximate times so people can plan their other
activities.

Hi Jim,
Yes I agree we might need more time. How about depending on weather we
decide on the meetings. I say this because what better time for those
that are still building to go flying than in the AM on Saturday... Or
it may be later in the day on Saturday that makes more sense (weather
depending). I believe the most inspiring part of building is the
thought of flight.
Ii looks like the official gathering needs to be on Saturday as some
might not get in till then. Plus... those 2nd day arrivals may not get
in till sometime after breakfast. We could make an afternoon of it.
Just a thought.
Now the weather is beautiful this AM in Tennessee so I'm going
flying... LOL!

...here's an idea...
How about after breakfast Saturday...say 9:00 am...we gather in the
lodge meeting room...give everyone an opportunity to speak for up to
5-6 minutes...basically to introduce themselves and give a snapshot of
their Europa experience...but also to bring up topics of particular
interest for later discussion...and...if an individual feels he has
some expertise in a particular area and would volunteer to lead a
discussion on a specific topic...we could have a board set up to list
topics, time slots, and location (meeting rm., at the air strip, or
around a specific aircraft).
I'm hesitant to suggest anything more specific since much of our
activity will be weather dependent and subject to change.

The 6Ns trip is due off next Saturday and we are thinking (weather willing)
of going down through France, across Switzerland, into Austria, possibly to
Budapest (Budaors), then through Czech Republic & Germany to end up at Texel
I have stopped off in all these countries, but would welcome any
suggestions/inside knowledge of nice and preferably not too expensive stop
over places, that we might not have visited before.

As one of the senior builders (began 23MAY97) I take it upon my shoulders to
suggest we of the unwashed are seriously angry about you not waiting for us
to finish before soaring off on these auspicious lecture series.
Thus I suggest if Bud and others are going to release previously
secret Hints and Kinks, that either the Head Bagel or the lecturer himself
prepare a paper on them for distribution later - so that a formal Clique Of
Cognoscienti does not form when we're not ready. We would still be drawn to
future gatherings at RR because second-hand info is still a deterrent but
necessary at present.
As a sign of sincerity, I will promise to be the scribe next year (hoping to
be airborne by then).

Hello, Im a proud newby since Ive bought my Europa classic TRG in
June this year.
Im German, so please apollogise my bad english particular when it comes

Now to my problem with the front wheel:
While landing on tomac the front wheel wobbles like the wheels on an old
shopping trolley.
This is rather uncomfortable and embarrassing.
It never occures in the takeoff.
It now seems to me, that the bolt of the front wheel fork is bent.
I do not know whether the bolt was bent by wobbling or the wobbling has
got its origin in the bented bolt.
Any suggestions?

Sounds very logical Fred. My plan is to arrive on Friday the 17th in
time for a gathering at the dinner table like 2 years ago. If it's
good with everyone else say around 5 or 6:PM central. Then your idea
of a Saturday breakfast 9:a, then meeting times & topics set makes a
lot of sense. Count me in.
BTW: For anyone coming up from the south. You are welcome to stop at
our airfield where we live. We have a local station not far that has
non alcohol gas and we can fly on up to RR together if you like. We
are about 40 30 or so miles south of Nashville TN. Our identifier is
TN-14 or otherwise known as T-Top Airfield. Runway headings are 2 &
20. 3600 foot grass and we're the only place on the south end. Let me
know off list and we'll have a few full cans of petro waiting

Hi! Juergen.
I would think that your "shimmy" friction Damper isn't correctly adjusted.
With incorrect setting it can wobble so violently it could destroy the whole
wheel assembly. Have you details of the Modification to the pivot shaft oil
"o" ring inclusion? There is also some special friction/ Viscus grease
which makes the castering assembly stiff to turn that you can add.
I strongly recommend that you ground the aircraft until you have checked
this information out. (I am assuming the axle for the wheel is also adjusted
correctly to give the tapered bearings a correct "pre-loading")
On take off the loading on the wheel is minimal since the propeller will be
lifting the weight off the wheel.
To properly inspect the nose wheel you need to weight the tail of the
aircraft down to lift the nose wheel off the ground.
Regards
Bob Harrison G-PTAG
PS All the above presumes that the castering pivot shaft hasn't been bent,
Mine did and eventually pulled out of the Yoke costing a new propeller and
engine when the wheel departed on landing/.

Jurgen,
For more information, go to http://www.europa-aircraft.com/ and select "Builder Assistance" from the colum on the left. After that page loads, select the "BUILDERS MANUALS" tab. This will load the page with the Builder's Manuals. Scroll down that page and select Chapter 29T - Landing Gear Tri Gear. Find the Nose Gear Introduction on Page 8 and begin reading there. Read at least through page 11.
Do not fly the aircraft again until the nose wheel shimmy has been corrected.
You will damage the nose wheel assembly. Don't hesitate to call Europa for assistance
and supplemental instructions either.
If you need assistance translating the English to German, go to http://babelfish.yahoo.com/ to help in translating the document. The translations are not perfect, but they help.

Subject: | Front wheel wobbling |

I do not know whether wobbling can cause the bolt to bend, but a hard nose-wheel
landing definitely can. I doubt that you can straighten the bent bolt without
risk of weakening the aluminum fork, so you may have to buy a new one from
Europa. I agree with Bob - you should check the nose gear thoroughly (including
the long gear leg and the bungee cord tension).
I had some wobbling on my first landing. Tightening the nut on top of the fork
bolt solved this, but I found the steering then to be harder then I preferred.
I have therefore used the vibration-dampening grease that Bob mentions, in
combination with the factory recommended tension of the nut. Apply the grease
only between the nose leg bearing and the friction disk, not inside the bearing.
This works great. I am away from home for three weeks, so I cannot give
you the name of the grease now. I bought it from USA - try an internet search.
You need only a small quantity, one application lasts for years.

Svein
