Some topics lend themselves to discussions around an airplane, i.e. cooling issues, AirMaster Prop, VG install, Billet Fuel Pump. Others (MG, fuel safety, fuel injection) would be better in a meeting room. Perhaps we could have a couple of informal sessions at the airstrip, maybe Saturday morning after breakfast (9:30 am?) and after lunch (1:30 pm?). Then a meeting room session Saturday late afternoon (3:30 pm?). We're interested in all of the suggested topics and think it would be a good idea to tentatively set topics & approximate times so people can plan their other activities. How about depending on weather we decide on the meetings. I say this because what better time for those that are still building to go flying than in the AM on Saturday... Or it may be later in the day on Saturday that makes more sense (weather depending). I believe the most inspiring part of building is the thought of flight. Ii looks like the official gathering needs to be on Saturday as some might not get in till then. Plus... those 2nd day arrivals may not get in till sometime after breakfast. We could make an afternoon of it. Just a thought. Now the weather is beautiful this AM in Tennessee so I'm going flying... LOL! Regards, Jeff R. How about after breakfast Saturday...say 9:00 am...we gather in the lodge meeting room...give everyone an opportunity to speak for up to 5-6 minutes...basically to introduce themselves and give a snapshot of their Europa experience...but also to bring up topics of particular interest for later discussion...and...if an individual feels he has some expertise in a particular area and would volunteer to lead a discussion on a specific topic...we could have a board set up to list topics, time slots, and location (meeting rm., at the air strip, or around a specific aircraft). I'm hesitant to suggest anything more specific since much of our activity will be weather dependent and subject to change. Juergen. I would think that your "shimmy" friction Damper isn't correctly adjusted. With incorrect setting it can wobble so violently it could destroy the whole wheel assembly. Have you details of the Modification to the pivot shaft oil "o" ring inclusion? There is also some special friction/ Viscus grease which makes the castering assembly stiff to turn that you can add. I strongly recommend that you ground the aircraft until you have checked this information out. (I am assuming the axle for the wheel is also adjusted correctly to give the tapered bearings a correct "pre-loading") On take off the loading on the wheel is minimal since the propeller will be lifting the weight off the wheel. To properly inspect the nose wheel you need to weight the tail of the aircraft down to lift the nose wheel off the ground. Regards Bob Harrison G-PTAG PS All the above presumes that the castering pivot shaft hasn't been bent, Mine did and eventually pulled out of the Yoke costing a new propeller and engine when the wheel departed on landing/. -----Original Message----- From: owner-europa-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-europa-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Juergen Buschmann Sent: 05 September 2010 21:24 Subject: Europa-List: Front wheel wobbling Hello, Im a proud newby since Ive bought my Europa classic TRG in June this year. I do not know whether wobbling can cause the bolt to bend, but a hard nose-wheel landing definitely can. I doubt that you can straighten the bent bolt without risk of weakening the aluminum fork, so you may have to buy a new one from Europa. I agree with Bob - you should check the nose gear thoroughly (including the long gear leg and the bungee cord tension). I had some wobbling on my first landing. Tightening the nut on top of the fork bolt solved this, but I found the steering then to be harder then I preferred. I have therefore used the vibration-dampening grease that Bob mentions, in combination with the factory recommended tension of the nut. Apply the grease only between the nose leg bearing and the friction disk, not inside the bearing. This works great. I am away from home for three weeks, so I cannot give you the name of the grease now. I bought it from USA - try an internet search. You need only a small quantity, one application lasts for years.
