John, There are two reasons for drip trays: 1. shielding the heat radiated by the exhaust pipes which may cause the fuel to boil in the carb bowls. 2. allowing fuel possibly leaking form the carbs to be drained below the engine, instead of being ignited by the red hot exhaust. Although the normally aspirated 912 and 912S carbs usually do not leak (unlike the 914's which are leaking almost all the time due to the boost pressure) I think it is good practice to have drip trays installed that insure these two functions. However I do not recommand to install the Rotax drip trays which bolt to the carb rubber flange as: 1. They de not fit with the hot coolant carb heat system 2. They do not allow to remove the carb bowl for inspection unless you remove the carbs, making servicing more time consuming. One solution is to make your own aluminum drip trays and have them bolted to the airbox using anchor nuts for easy removal. Hope that helps. These issues with incompatible EMail systems would cease if everyone used the direct access to the list instead of EMail. This has many advantages as you will see by trying it out. The list is at forums.matronics.com where you can read all the threaded messages. To post new messages you need to sign up for a free login. Subject: Top fuselage- rear flange gap problem
    From: "jglazener" <j.glazener@planet.nl>
I am trying to get my top fuselage to fit to the bottom. This is a necessity for most before bonding it on, but since I need to incorporate a Hi-top mod, it is even more important to get it right before I start cutting it into pieces. I find that even with the front flanges aligned to those in the firewall, and the trimline on the back of the tail lined up with the end of the fuselage, I still have a gap at the rear flanges of 9-10 mm (see attached). If I then raise the front fuselage as per mod 64B it only gets worse, with some 11mm at the bottom. Is this normal? If not, what can I do about it? Suggestions welcome, Jeroen Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=312941#312941 Attachments: http://forums.matronics.com//files/19092010483_727.jpg

Hi All, Just wanted to say we had a wonderful time at Rough River. Not sure what the official count was but I think I counted 12 Europas and close to 30 folks. Someone correct me. I know this isn't exact. Wish we could have had more time to look closer at all the planes. It seems I ran out of time to chat with everyone like I would have liked. The weather was beautiful (and hot). Donna and I had a easy and safe flight home. Can't wait til next year! I'll post pix soon. Troy Maynor

Troy & All, I'll second it all. Maureen and I had a great time. I'll concur with your numbers as they seem pretty close. Sure was nice to be able to put faces with names after all these building years. Lots of crawling all over beautiful Europas and some excellent information and discussion sessions. We are already making plans to be there again next year. Only next year we'll be flying instead of driving! Pix to be posted in a week or so.
