Jeroen, I had it too (and I have the hitop as well). I heard from others
that this was normal, and I have accepted this. I filled up the gap with
flox, and added two layers of bid on the outside (in addition to the
flange on the inner side).
90+ hours and still counting.

Cleve
My understanding is that the Europa work on the R1100 was stopped as they
could not eliminate a torsion vibration problem with the setup. I speculate
that an R1200 installation would have the same problems.
In May 1997 it was being worked on. This was the period when a man called
Adam Kingdom became CEO. Things do not appear to have gone well and he left
in mid/late 1998. News letters in this period are very sketchy.

If you are looking for something different this weekend why not get Thorney
Island on the South Coast into your logbook. An Ex RAF airfield from my
child hood days which is normally closed to air traffic but open this
weekend as an event to raise funds for SSAFA and Help for Heroes (see
attached). I emailed the organiser yesterday and he said to send on the
invite to you all.
Also this weekend is the (supposed) closure of Sandown airfield on the Isle
of Wight. One of our members Richard Holder mentioned yesterday at our Doth
that a flyin was arranged for this weekend. I also spoke to one of my
neighbours at Popham who had visited Sandown yesterday and reitterated that
it is still open, an injunction has successfully been served to prevent the
runway from being shut and the cafe has been removed to the North side and
is open for business.
I spoke to the owner of Specialist Flying School on the north side of the
airfield today 23rd Sept(01983 402402) who served the injunction and he
reitterated that the airfield will remain open and the cafe is functioning
with all day breakfasts etc. All will be very welcome and landing fees
remain the same as before (=A36 microlights, =A310 class A aircraft etc). H
e did
point out that the airfield is unlicensed and they are trying to get the
strip properly mowed and cared for. PPR would be appreciated on the number
above and the frequency remains the same.

Jeff,
Thank you for putting the event together...it was fantastic. Kim, Kevi
n, and myself all made it home safely today. Bob is down in Florida vi
siting with some old buddies of his. As Fred stated the Europa was des
igned for trips like ours. We had strong head winds which precluded us
from making the trip back in two days. Although, our stay in Winslow,
AZ last night was too funny. We were offered a courtesy car which the
line man stated was donated to the FBO. It was a blue1981 Plymouth Re
liant K station wagon. We were informed that the car was not insured a
nd didn't have current registration or plates. However, not to worry,
everyone in town knows the vehicle. What a hoot. We kept thinking of
the Eagles song "Take it Easy."
Thanks to everyone who was able to attend the event. It sure was nice
to finally put faces with so, so many names on this great forum.

To fellow Europaphiles,
I agree with Kevin's comments regarding cross country travel adventure
in the US. One can stop at any number of out of the way places and meet
the most interesting people who always go out of their way to help.
Usually the courtesy car is available (often of dubious vintage and
"Just don't take it out of the county!" ). Just add some gasoline. It is
fun and you see a side of the US which not many people have a chance to
look at.

Troy,
After we left RR Sunday we stayed the night in Ponca City,OK (KPNC). We were
greeted by the Mayor and given the keys to the mini van and club house!
Monday we called it quits in Winslow, AZ (KINW) where the fuel guy said "you
did'nt hear it from me, but if you look under the floor mat of the old blue
station wagon you'll find the keys". We had some great laughs cruising route
66 in our '81 Reliant wagon. So we did add a couple days to our RR 2010
Europa adventure!

As I was reading your post I thought of the same song before I got to
the end and read you did too. Did you see and chicks in a flat bed ford?
Glad you could make it. looking forward to twice the Europas and the
same weather next year!

I have noticed that my trim LED has begun to play up with several of the
lights not showing up. Is this a problem others have had and has anyone
looked at alternatives?

Steve,
Mine did the same thing. I just push on the LED's with my finger and
they all come back on. I think it's a printed circuit thing on the
display.

I have serviced a few of these already. One was mine, right out of the box.
In my case, one LED at the extreme range of travel would not light
sometimes.
All it required was a touch up of solder on one of the terminals on the back
of the bar display, inside the unit.
The other one was in someone else's plane, with quite a few hours. The
symptom was that the two LED's (segment lights) in the middle would not
light up. These two segments corresponded with cruise settings. I was sure
that it was the dot/bar driver IC inside. On further inspection, it turned
out to be that the two LED's on the lighted display were blown and the
Integrated circuit was just fine. Most LED's should last 100,000 hours.
WOW, that was a stunner! (it could be that they are driven at high current
levels, for maximum brightness in the cockpit on sunny days..but I did not
check) Thus in this case, a new $2 10-segment Light display was called for.
>From Jeff R's symptoms:
I am almost positive that based on the intermittent symptoms in Gold Rush,
it will just require a solder touch-up inside the display unit. Cost: about
1 cent worth of solder.
In the other two cases, there is not enough info to go on. If the LED's
sometimes still work (from hand tapping), it is probably a solder Job. Tap
on the display unit while it is operating, to see if you can get all of the
LED's to come on. Once is enough, even if only a split second. It verifies
the LED (Light Emitting Diode) is not burned out.
An intermittent problem in flight that is not resolved by tapping on the
display, could also reside in the position feedback inside the servo itself,
back on the rear bulkhead, though I have as yet to see that failure.
It is quite a simple circuit inside these display units. I used to play with
the exact same circuit on a solder-less breadboard...way back in High
School. In fact, I built a display for my Ford Pinto to verify the voltage
in the car, just for fun. A cassette tape holder served as the case for it.
If memory serves, it fell out of its berth and onto the floor when the car
got rear-ended...

Greg Fuchs, A050
