Subject: | NSI CAP 140 IFA prop maintenance and spares |
Hello group,
I'm a would be Europa owner and am considering buying a plane with a
Rotax 912 engine and an NSI CAP140 IFA prop.
I know little about Europa's (other than they look good, fly well, and
have very loyal owners,) and I know even less about this prop, other
than I had heard a rumour that spares/ servicing might be a problem for
UK owners. Any info on servicing, spares, pre-purchase checking (and
anything else I should know) would be appreciated.
Apologies if this question has been answered somewhere in the archive
(I'm still learning how to drive this site)
Thanks (in anticipation)
Bob

Bob,
I would recommend a Google or other search on "NSI CAP 140 Propeller" to get as much background information as possible. I believe there may be a Canadian AD on the prop. NSI used to have a website ( http://www.nsiaero.com/ ) but it is no longer operating. Caveat Emptor.
Is it possible in the UK to replace the CAP 140 on a flying Europa with another
prop (Warp Drive, Airmaster, Whirlwind, WoodComp, etc.)? Can this be done economically
in this case?

I can enthusiastically recommend the Whirlwind constant speed prop. Those
who are running it will swear it's the best on the market. A little pricey,
but it you want the ultimate in performance, it's the way to go.

Hi Bob
NSI were bought out by Maxwell Propulsion some year back, Maxwell have
ceased trading recently. Although they never officially supported the
CAP140 they did have quite a number of spares. The blades are standard
Warpdrive and readily obtainable from them directly. However the cuffs are
NSI and would need to be refitted. There was an AD regarding the early
version of the cuff but they are now on Mark 3 with no issues. The original
problem was when the prop was fitted to I think Lycoming or Continental and
not Rotax or Subaru. There are still a few spares about but watch out for
spare blades where the Subaru ones turn the other way.
Very well engineered propeller with little to go wrong. Check for play in
the blades when it is static. It also suites the Europa flight
characteristics and performs well. Mine is on a 912 and we get 125kts
indicated at around 14.5 litres ph depending on load.
Regards
Pete

Hello sirs,
I see on the website Europa-Club, the different propellers choice,
Airmaster, woodcomp, Arplast, Warp drive, NSI....
I have woodcomp propeller SR2000 on my aircraft since 270 hours flight
with total satisfaction.
The French civil aviation require to me an approval document from Europa
or British administration.
Do you have an official approval document from Europa or British
administration to use this propeller on the monowheel model?
Thanks for your answer.
Excuse my poor english

Alain
I have attached a copy of the LAA (British Administration) which gives the
prop choice for the Europa.
The only standard approved prop is the ground adjustable Warp drive.
Everything else (see the bottom of the document) has to be done on an
individual application for each aircraft. I personally think this is
unnecessary bureaucracy but I have failed to persuade LAA to change it. LAA
claim they need to look at the combination of the aircraft, engine and prop
to approve the combination.
May I suggest you call Andy Draper at LAA and ask if he can help

Has anyone purchased a warp drive prop recently, do they have to be ordered from
the US and if so does anyone know the shipping? presumably VAT is also paid
via the shipping company.
Anyone have an HP-L hub to sell on?

Subject: | Re: Warp drive props |
Graeme & others,
I have decided to sell my Warp Drive prop with spinner, backing plate and hardware.
It has a grand total of about 2 hours running time. Of that 1.5 hours are actual
flying time. It's like new.
It is the 62 inch 3-Blade Standard Carbon Fiber with HP-L Hub, white tips & 9"
white fiberglass spinner/backing plate.
The HP-L hub is for the Rotax 912 & 914 engine.
Warp Drive ( http://www.warpdriveprops.com/ ) lists these at $785 for the prop and $175 for the spinner/backing plate.
Plus $20/blade for the white tips, $55 for Rotax Mounting Hardware & $85 for 3/8"
crush plate.
That's $1160 new plus any shipping. I'll sell for US$910 (UK560 or 640) plus shipping.
I'll be sure to include the blade protractor and instructions.
If you are interested, I documented the prop installation and set-up on my web
site Year #8 Q2 2009.
Check six,
Bob Borger
