I think the old adage says " when deciding if an optional item is worth fitting, toss it in the air and if it falls to the ground it is too heavy to fit" Weight is the real enemy of aircraft performance. I learned this the hard way and have lots of nice extras, but my wife can take hardly any baggage on our trips. My stuff is essential, of course. Can anyone tell me if I should paint these and if so, is it ok to use the normal aircraft metal etch primer. I would then add the normal two pack poly paints. ALSO, I am still not clear whether it would be a good idea to coat the firewall GRP with sticky backed foil/insulation or foil of somekind, I have seen something like this in some of the pictures. Help appreciated. -------- Graeme Bird Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=329318#329318 ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 01:59:15 AM PST US Subject: Europa-List: Re: painting a plated engine mount frame From: "flyingphil2" Hi Graeme, The parts you have are zinc plated (I believe the drawing calls for 'ZN8-10 CHROMATE PASSIVATE AND TOP COAT'). So, you don't need to paint these as the coating will protect them. However, as Bud says, it is very easy to scratch this coating when working with the parts. If you do scratch anything then I'd touch up with some zinc rich primer or something like that. Also, as Bud says, the ACP 50 stuff is very good and a light coating of this will protect the parts. We could consider doing our fly-in on the Labor day weekend as they're pretty open September 2 & 3rd. They have plenty of rooms left and 7 cabins. 2nd. The weekend of the 9th & 10th is when Sport Aviation would be there. They only have 6 lodge rooms left and 6 smaller cabins left. That may make it tough for those wanting to commit late. Plus the field would be quit busy as far as getting to park our Europa's together. However their woul be lots of other planes to keep us entertained. The weekend of the 16th & 17th is booked solid and there is nothing available. So doing what we did last year two weeks after Labor day is out. 3rd. September 23 & 24 they only have 15 lodge rooms and 2 cabins so that weekend is tight. Looks like the closer to fall the more booked they are. My suggestion and vote would be option 1 and do it on Labor day weekend the 2nd & 3rd. That way anyone wanting can even stay Sunday night then fly home on Monday. This could give the faraway flyers an extra day to get home. Some may have family obligations with the holiday though. The only other option would be to go for September 30th & October 1st but... Weather? I think we all need to chime in here on your thoughts and vote. Whatever is best for the group let me know and I'll get it booked. As far as a meeting & eating room I'll go for what they have when we decide on the weekend. Worst case would be the airport... Not bad. Regards, Jeff R. Our first vote is Labor Day Weekend. Second choice is weekend after Labor Day.
