Hi Folks, I have just replaced my original Airmaster prop controller (AC100) with the upgraded AC200 which uses the magnetic speed sensor and brush unit. This appears to be causing interference to my VHF transmissions. The receiving stations report distortion and breaking up, which is also apparent on the sidetone. I am led to believe it is the prop because the interference goes away if the engine is stopped or the sensor unit is disconnected. I substituted an ICOM receiver for the original Bendix/King one, and it is better but not cured. Has anyone else had a similar problem, and if you have, have you managed to sort it? All the Best, Paddy Paddy Clarke Europa G-KIMM ________________________________ Message 5 _____________________________________ Time: 07:26:59 AM PST US Subject: Re: Europa-List: Weight and Balance Scales From: Robert Borger Mike, Try balances.com if you wish to purchase scales. You can search by weight range and sort by price. Just off the top of the head (and it's getting pretty thin up there), for a conventional gear, two 500 pounders and a 100 pounder should be adequate unless you have a really heavy Europa. For instance, you can get a Siltec PS500L digital scale for $169.95 and the Siltec PS100L digital scale is $149.95. That's $489.85 for the three you'd need. If that's too much for your wallet right now, check your local EAA chapter, they may have a set of scales to loan/rent. Or find other homebuilders on your airport who may have access to scales for loan/rent. It's a bathroom scale but three of them ($236.85) would probably do the job as long as your aircraft is under 900 lbs and you are careful getting the mains onto the scale. Last year I found that it was quite common for the resin to become thick and lumpy when getting towards the bottom of the tin, and sometimes it wouldn't pour at all ' especially if none had been used for several weeks. The manufacturer said it could be restored by heating above 50=B0C for long enough to make sure that there were no crystals left, otherwise it would soon re-crystallise. An hour was certainly sufficient. Once restored, it is fully usable without any reduction in shelf life. Such restoration can be repeated as necessary problem should recur. I have not tried warming resin that has already been mixed with hardener, as Nev suggests below, but I would regard this as a recovery measure to avoid throwing away material that would otherwise be unusable. You would also run an increased risk of exotherm as well as reduced pot life. If you just want to get on with a small job you could, as an alternative to heating the whole tin of resin, warm enough resin in a mixing pot by placing it in a bowl of hot water and stirring until it is all clear. You could then let it cool to workshop temperature (20-25=B0 C is recommended for composite work) before mixing with hardener. Good luck!
