Hi all,
This is to inform you that the 2011 RSA french rally location and dates have been recently changed: it will take place in Blois (about 100 miles SW from Paris) on July 1st to 3rd. Informations will be available soon on www.rsafrance.com
To those reading the Europa Flyer, please note that the dates and location mentioned
in the last issue are wrong.
Hope to see many Europas there.
Regards
Remi Guerner

I'm having a little difficulty understand the English English being using to describe
the installation of the Nose fairing. There seems to be a step missing.
Fig. 2 shows all the part and it looks like SK20 fits inside of the folks,
but there is nothing that talks about securing the SK20 to the folk.
Is it just held in place by the axle nut?

The SK20 fits on the axle bolt outside the fork. As standard it has no
attachment to the fork and can therefore rotate a little. When I installed
mine I drilled the SK20 and drilled and taped the fork with a small screw
to stop this happening.

Hi Rick
Yes the main axle bolt and nut hold the SK20 on the outside of the front
wheel fork,
hopefully that makes sense,

Hi All,
My gas springs don't seem to be able to hold the doors up these days and I
need to replace them. I was wondering if anyone happens to know of an
equivalent gas spring that can be sourced in the US.
The Europa supplied gas spring is made by Industrial Customline in the UK
with a p/n of GS8699-1. There WEB site does not give me any clue as to the
specifications of the spring so I haven't been able to cross reference it.
Thanks - Paul

My 05 cbr1000rr longblock weighs 145 lbs w/ the full tranny.
FWF flying is less than 180 lbs.
Taking the final ratio down w/ the chain drive gives me 2750 prop rpm at
7000k in 6th, 8000k rpm in 5th and 9000k in 4th gear to, say 160 knots?
All the other gears share the wear on the way to 2750 prop rpm.
I know chain tech has doubled the strength and longevity since the eighties.
By using a much larger sprocket as the "small" sprocket, the chain never
really gets stressed like it would on the bike.
My concern is vibration from custom transmission arrangements.
I know they designed it to work complete.
The last two gears are 1:25 and 1:16 and should endure well.
My power take off is a quill shaft fwd to a remote spool holding the small
sprocket.
This also isolates the trans from side loads and clocksprings the prop a
little for a smoother ride.
- Your plan sounds awesome. I'm curious.
The crank normally runs on the clutch basket through gear teeth.
Does this imply you do not need a flywheel other than the alternator?
Imho, I would ask you to consider a chain drive for the damping it can
provide between the crank and the prop.
Some belts are have zero "give" and can transmit jerk viciously.
Also, chain is rather fire resistant.
Good luck restraining your power madness ... hahaha

Does anyone by any chance have any old head sets (that you have replaced by
shiny new ones perhaps) that they would like to donate (or perhaps long
term loan) to one of our local schools (Marling School, Stroud) who are in
the late stages of building a Vans kitplane under the Build a Plane Project?
When complete the school has the use of the plane for 150 hrs of flying,
before it is sold on to finance the next project. Needless to say the school
is pressed to find spare cash to buy items that are not part of the original
kit.

Paul,
McMaster-Carr ( http://www.mcmaster.com/ and search "gas springs") has a broad assortment of gas springs and a good information page. I think they may have suitable replacements.

Popham Microlight Rally EGHP 30th April to 1st May 2011
This is just to remind everyone that the first 'Club' outing is next
weekend at Popham EGHP and the club will have a marquee to invite its
members to, including light refreshments.
If the weather remains as it has been the last few weeks it should be a
cracker of a turnout of aircraft so come along and join the fun.
For more information see http://www.popham-airfield.co.uk
As a further reminder the club will also be having its AGM weekend at
Popham on the 9th to 10th July (arrivals would be welcome on the Friday)
and this now does not clash with the RSA Rally in France .
Dave Bosomworth stands down as Chairman this year and it would be great
to have a large number of members to mark the occasion. We had 42
Europas last year - lets see if we can beat it.
Food and refreshments is being planned.
