I agree with Karl. Stick to what is recommended by Europa (basically auto
fuel injection hose), cover it with Firesleeve forward of the firewall, and
don't forget to save the fuel restrictor buried in the fuel return line if
you replace that one. In the UK it is recommended that all rubber hoses are
changed every five years.

Juergen,
I don't think anyone ever had that kind of a problem before. Is there not an
engine/airframe logbook from the previous owner ? It should have information
about fuel hose changes.
Anyway, many owners use fuel injection hose from your local autoparts store,
6 or 8mm internal diameter as needed. Forget about the steel braiding.
Replace at least all sections which have the same type as the defective
hose. It is quite easy.

Juergen,
The stainless steel braided hose originally supplied with the kit, has been notorious
for craking, leaking etc... In your case I would replace ALL flexible fuel
lines. Note that the general rule is to replace rubber hose every 5 years.
On my aircraft I am using GATES 3225 automotive fuel lines. I replaced them last
year after 5 years and found them to be in very good shape.

Mike,
I am also using the Katana fuel pressure switch. Attached pic shows the Bosch P/N.
I have not found any other solution than buying it from Diamond and it cost
me around 100 Euros, as far as I remember. Same looking Bosch pressure switches
sell for less than 10 Euros but they are rated for oil pressure, that is ten
times what we need.
The other picture shows the intallation on the firewall of my aircraft. The switch
is on the left side of the picture. On the top is the UMA fuel pressure sensor.
The right fuel line comes from the tee on the carb fuel line. The bottom
fuel line goes back to the tank and includes the restrictor.

Remi

I am trying to fit the (water) radiator to the cooling duct [XS engine
kit], but the radiator is not as wide as the duct. If placed to one
side of the duct there is a gap of about an inch at the other side. The
manuual says to attach the radiator to the side plates with short AN3
bolts (and -4 nuts !), which clearly will not work.
Am I missing something here, are they all like that, do I have the right
radiator (it in unmarked but about 315mm wide, just over 12"), or what ?

Cheers,
I was reviewing the door 'anti-bulge' reference in today's list when
the adjacent "random image" featured the above topic which I espoused lo,
that many years ago.
I forgot to see who originated the image because it referred to
measuring height-above-runway from 6 inches to about 6 feet. My enthusiasm
was peaked because the stall speed (+/- 40kt) equated to the speed of rudder
authority loss. The whole idea being to stall her on tail first to acquire
directional authority on touchdown. I had thought there were too many
incidents of mono's veering off the landing strip through loss of control.
I beg whoever authored that image to contact me as have built but
not tested the device and am sure I've missed something, please.

Subject: | Re: fuel pressure problem, urgent |
the five years expire this June and after all that trouble I will surely replace
all the hoses.
The steel braided hose before and after the electrical pump is grounded so I wonder
this is necessary for a good reason and they cant be replaced by all rubber
hoses.
Reading about all the problems concerning flexible hoses I ask my self if it would
not be better to use tubes ( aluminum or copper ).
This Sunday I will replace all my fuel hoses.
Thank you all for your assistance
Juergen

I don't know the official answer to that, Fred, but I suspect the five year
limit is because it is not possible to inspect the inside of a rubber hose.
Of course, you can inspect the outer sheath for enbrittlement and cracking.
If I had a teflon lined hose I would be inclined to visually inspect it
rather than change every five years, but that is just my opinion.

Brian

Well if it helps I replaced all my hoses after 5 years. I used Gates Fuel
Injection hose for the original installation and they seemed in perfect
condition when I replaced them.
I never did use the metal braided hose that came with the kit, by the time I
got to that part of the build there was enough evidence around to suggest
that they were not fit for purpose.

Hi John
I also found the duct to be wider than the rad so I made up 2 distance piece
plates out of commercial aluminium and mounted one each side on the outside
of the rads mounting brackets, I then drilled through the lot to fit fixing
bolts.
Good luck Richard

John,
Same on my engine installation. I made up 4 spacers of the appropriate size to
center the radiator in the duct from aluminum tubing and used anchor nuts on
the inner surfaces of the flange on the radiator to catch the AN3 bolts needed
to hold every thing in place. I also used silicone baffle material to close
the gaps on the sides and make sure the airflow goes through the radiator and
not around it.

Hi John,
In our monowheel XS the tank holds 18.5 gallons with the fuel a few
inches from the top of the filler neck. The tank splits at the tunnel
at about 5 gallons, with 2.5 in the reserve side.
