Hi! Juergen.
I haven't been watching your messages but can't help wondering when you say
"tighter"? Surely you are fixing the restrictor in the pipe with a jubilee
clip to clamp it in place?

Problem solved!
Yesterday I replaced all fuel hoses and had my first planed landing for
weeks.
Today I cut the replaced hose all the length from the electrical pump to the
mechanical pump and found a desquamation that worked like a valve, closing
when the fuel flow was high.
Fine but some questions remain:
The restrictor int the return line was not absent as the mechanics supposed
but the ordered one from Europa Aircraft is so much tighter than the one
once delivered with the kit. The hole in the first one is about 2mm and the
new one is 0,2mm!
Now with the tighter restrictor I achieve a bit more than 0,2bar fuel
pressure in the full power setting.
I never had a working fuel pressure gage till now so I do not know what the
pressure was with the original restrictor.
What kind of restrictor do you have installed and how high is your fuel
pressure?
Thank you so much for your assistance so far!
Juergen

Hi Bob,
think it is only a problem with the phraseology.
The restrictor that came with the kit has been screed ( or glued ) into the T-peace
of the return line. The hole in this ristictor is about 2mm.
The restrictor I ordered last week from Europa Aircraft is a single part that has
to be secured by a clamped in the hose of the return line. This restrictor
has got a hole ( ore better "bore"? ) of about 0,2mm. Thats what I mean with
"tighter". (not to promote impure thoughts........).

It's that fore and aft up and down thrusting motion one uses to fill the
tank of course.
As for the heat, yes it is, and with a barn full of repairs, new builds
and two nearing first flight we're all exhausted.

"shacking" you say...hmmmmm...shacking indeed...would that be some
kind of dance, or an old F-4 fighter jock term?
Is it getting pretty hot already down your way Bud?

Juergen,
The diameter of restrictor supplied by Europa is 0.7 mm. In their
Install Manual Rotax recommand 0.35 mm. I have tried both and now
have 0.5 which seems to be a good compromise between enough pressure
and enough return flow. I also found that the smaller diameter gets
plugged from time to time. You will have this problem with 0.2 for
sure. My typical fuel pressure at cruise with the electrical pump
turned off is 3 to 4 PSI which is in the middle of the range specified
by Rotax.

Subject: rudder pedal adjustment
How do we adjust the rudder pedals for short ar-s like myself after aircraft
completion? The manual suggests cable shortening using home made triangular
3 bolt clamps in the rear fuse but these would bounce around the fuselage
bottom of the XS with the extended tail wheel. So far I have been using
cushions to adjust the body. What are others doing?
Thanks

I am 5' 8" and the standard set up is fine. I know someone shorter who has a
thicker seat back & bottom which can be slipped in. This setup works well w
ith no permanent mods being required.

Subject: | Carb, fuel and oil tube heat shielding |
Ref. recent discussion regarding risk of fuel vapor lock and how to shield
the fuel system from engine heat.
Attached is photo and sketch of the carb heat shields I made out of s/s
steel plate. Fixed to the exhaust pipes by s/s hose clamps. The clamps
expand and contract in approximate sync with the exhaust pipes, so no
cracking discovered and no re-tightening required. As will be seen, the
carbs have heating blocks installed, which (as stated by Graham) makes the
factory heat shields difficult to use.
All fuel hoses forward of firewall are protected by both fire sleeve and
heat sleeve (claimed to reflect approx. 90% of radiated heat) - see photo.
Both purchased from racing car supply shop in the UK (don't recall name, and
I am away from my file). I also use the heat sleeve on oil lines running
very close to the engine.
/////
Regarding the fuel return restrictor: I use the restrictor supplied by the
factory in 2001. Do not know the hole diameter, but it is less than 0.5 mm.
The opening is indeed surprisingly small, but bear in mind that gasoline has
very low viscosity compared to e.g. water.
(I sent an earlier message today with same heading, but it appears it did
not go through. If it does pop up, pls disregard it)

Subject: | Strengthen Door with Mod 67 |
Well, I have successful strengthen one door to the point that I don't have a budge
on this door any more. MOD 67 took away to much material and then re-installing
the cover caused most of my problems. I made a three layer ply of fiberglass
1" tape inside of the door. I held it in place with aluminum angle on
the inside and outside. Lots of clamps. Once that was dry I re-installed the
cover with microfibers and again lots of clamps with aluminum angle on both sides.
The door fit nicely. I started on the pilot's door today.
I have one problem and maybe somebody can help. The edge where the MOD 67 cut
out into the door area I only have about 1/4" clearance and the door frame. The
seal is over 1/4" thick. I need a seal in the area that is smaller in width.
Any ideals out there?

I flitted two turnbuckle's in the rear fuselage to eliminate cable stretch,
but so far they are fine, It would
be a awkward job but they could be retro fitted through the D panel,
