Mike, I've been there a couple of times. It's difficult to contact the operator, but they seem happy most of the time to just use it. The runway does have sheep on it and car drivers learning to drive, so a low pass is the order of the day. Also the runway is quite rough being well broken up tarmac, but still perfectly useable. Subject: Wiring sources
Cheers, If you are in the course of wiring, as I seem to be endlessly, sometimes a wiring change or design calls for a number of 2 or more wire connections and not much room for them. if the current demand is less than a few, of course Dsub connectors will serve but for not less than 5 wires - sometimes too many. If it's for more than say 4-5 Amps, perhaps the following might be of use: Taiwan King Pin (TKP) part number H6725R-02 [8.3A] an industry designation, might serve. Their source in Canada is MODE Electronics in Burnaby BC. Referring to either of these firms will bring forth a plethora (more than one pleth) of connectors and associated bits. Finding your source is your problem..... Regards, Ferg C-FFGG

Subject: Glider Wing Spar Mod 78 ready for order.
To all Motor Glider Owners, Europa Aircraft has published Mod 78 and SBs 17 and 18 affecting the motor glider wings and attachments. The modifications have been accomplished a number of times at the Europa Center and we believe that the modifications to the spar are possible for the amateur builder. The Mod 78, Service Bulletins 17 and 18 and original BOM is attached so you can see what is in the kit and the instructions. Mod 78 and Service Bulletins 17 and 18 are now published on the www.europa-aircraft.com website if you have difficulty down loading from this message. The prices for the modification and options is listed below, and as of my last look, the prices are not yet posted in the Modifications section of the Europa website. Glue availability in the small quantities that were required for this mod and the huge shipping costs of hazardous materials from the UK has been the reason for this delay until now. We have a Gurit supplier now established here in the United States for Ampreg 21 which can supply in the smaller quantities necessary. For your information the manufacturer of the required Ampreg 21 normally supplies in large volumes as this is a common marine industry resin used in high performance racing boats and large fabrication facilities using autoclave technology and therefore it is not stocked in smaller quantities. Listed below is the price for the modification parts and glue supplies: Kit Price: Option 1 - Parts & Tooling : GBP =A3869.14 Or about $1480 US Option 2 - Parts, Tooling & Resin Kit : GBP =A31163.74 or $1980 US. Shipping and Hazardous not included from the UK. See below for US glue option. Option 3 - Additional 2 off Wing Forward Pins (W25M78) for XS wings : GBP =A396.74 or about $165 US (These pins are required for those with both sets of wings.) Note the resin kit is an extra 294 British Pounds or $500 US rather than the $255 below and does not include the substantial shipping and hazardous fees. Expect at least 4-6 weeks for the shipping of your kit depending on volume. For US customers, listed below is the Ampreg 21 dealer quote which is now a couple of weeks old but indicative of the size and savings. This price does not include shipping or handling fees to Custom Flight Creations which are normally very small in bulk orders of 6 or more. Stock Name Price Delivery Time F121-034 AMPREG21 RESIN 10KG ea. $ 155.16 10 weeks F121-036 AMPREG21 HARD STD 3.33KG ea. $ 100.199 10 weeks Note the delivery times. If shipped by Custom Flight Creations from Florida to US addresses, we can ship USPS ground and forgo the hazardous fee rather than UPS which is an extra $65 minimum hazardous fee plus the shipping. USPS ground shipping will probably be about $30 US. Please indicate your order at the earliest at the addresses below or to Europa via phone. We will then assemble the kits and begin shipping. There are suggested proposals to the wing spar cup elimination to improve rigging ease and these will follow through the tech talk section of the website. Hopefully additional photo's will be included later for techniques on the modification. For those not able to accomplish this modification or have concerns on their ability to successfully accomplish this modification, Custom Flight Creations is ramping up equipment and space to accomplish the modification and will be ready in about 14 days to begin. Subject: Trailer
    From: cdspattingham@aol.com
All. I have a trailer that I used to use for my own Europa Tri Gear which I no longer own. The trailer is a custom made one, built originally for a mono wheel that wa s then converted for a tri gear. It is basically a flat bed trailer with th e necessary wing support brackets and hold down points and ramps. The ply dec k needs completely replacing and basically tidying but is a strong useful trailer f or an Europa owner. The trailer is currently in South Staffordshire. If anyone is interested please email me at cdspattingham@aol.com for furthe r information. Regards Paul Lowe

    Subject: Re: Mode S
Mode S: My understanding is that from March next year you must have a Mode S transponder in airspace classes A-C and in TMZs. A mode C or A transponder will not be legal. In other airspace (i.e. outside of UK controlled airspace) it is less clear and not helped by random statements in mags like Loop that suggest that ALL aircraft must have Mode S. Given that the reason for mandating Mode S is to prevent potential saturation of the transponder RF 'environment' by the replies from older mode A/C units, the logical thought is that the use of Mode A/C transponders will be illegal everywhere, but I cannot find a statement to that effect. The nearest I can find is that any transponder fitted after March 2012 must be Mode S. The alternative is that once the IFR aircraft are fitted with Mode S, the RF environment can cope with the remaining few Mode A/C units in our aircraft. If that is the case then you are ok until you can no longer get it repaired, so long as you never fly in class A to C airspace or TMZs. The original plan was to fit Mode S to everything because CAA would sponsor the manufacture of a 'lightweight transponder' or LWT. This failed when it was found that the technology could not be shrunk enough to be viable in a portable battery powered device. Ever since then the information to GA users has shrivelled and even now gliders are still being threatened with Mode S for flights above FL100. A poorly communicated piece of legislation. Ian
