Tony Did you read your manual? Why not ask the agent in Melbourne? I bought it a couple of years ago and am wondering about what advice people would recommend in relation to maintaining its integrity, and maybe modding it at the same time. I wish to get it serviced by my local Rotax dealer, to inspect and protect it. A work colleague who is an ex car mechanic mentioned the crankshaft bearing housings can absorb moisture and corrosion can therefore occur. Not sure if this sort of concern is applicable to my engine, but in essence that is like an engine rebuild. What should I consider doing? Lastly, if it did need the block being split, is there a metal coating I could have applied, even paint, that would stop that "corroded look" some engines develop as they get older??' But potentially would like to keep the airmaster controller AC200. Has someone already connected a woodcomp to an airmaster controller AC200 with success? Contact him at support@smartavionics.com . If it proves incompatible I would strongly recommend his controller. However, I sure understand. Glad your son is coming home. I think Bob and I finally got our reservations straightened out. They had screwed them up like you couldn't believe at Rough River. If you don't make it, we'll hoist a beer in your honor. Jim ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jeffrey Roberts" Sent: Thursday, August 25, 2011 6:28:16 PM Subject: Europa-List: Fwd: Rough River Report # 5 Hi All, Looks like this year our list is shrinking a bit and for this I'll take some of the blame. I'm sorry to say that due to life getting in the way I will not be able to attend Rough River this year. Today I was just informed that my son now may indeed get a 1 month early return from his deployment in Afghanistan. He will probably be arriving into FT. Polk LA the weekend of Rough River. As with the Army there could be a last minute delay but I cannot commit for sure on RR. Then on top of that My daughter, son-n-law and 3 grandkids are planning on being here just in case my son is coming in so they will go to FT. Polk as well, or just stay here if he doesn't. Family in town ;-(. Just too many things pointing to me not attending this year. I wanted to tell you all before but I was unsure. As we get closer I had to make a decision. Now with all that said... There is still a chance that Landon my son will be delayed. I ask the family and they will be fine with me squeezing out for Friday night and all day Saturday without them. That would be cool with me as I need to get away!! Lots up in the air but being just a few weeks out it's time for us to commit or cancel the cabin. I apologize for not promoting this as much as last year but having a kid over there and dealing with my clients, not to mention a construction project here at the end of our runway has really occupied my mind this summer. Also keep in mind... Anyone flying cross country this direction is more than welcome to use our new guest apartment flying thru. We're located 35 mils south of Nashville TN on the south end of TN14. It's a 3600 foot grass strip. I have access to 93 octane non alcohol close by. If I have to go to LA I might not have to leave till Saturday so we'll be here friday. I will continue upgrading this list so please do what you can to attend and let me know of any changes that need to be made. I just got an e-mail from Jiri of Woodcomp to indicate me that the airmaster controller is incompatible with the woodcomp propellor. From: "stephen vestuti" Jeff - Baby Blue , Hi, I notice your comment about " a leaky exhaust that might allow heat to get to the carb bowls ". I had this problem on the first Europa that I built , the fuel boiling in the Stb. carb bowl and causing rough running/power loss at the TOC. Do you or any other builders know if any one has improved the cooling in this area - besides the drip trays which double as heat shields ? I want to incorporate some type of mod to this one, Steve. #630 Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=350645#350645 ________________________________ Message 7 _____________________________________ Time: 11:09:00 AM PST US Subject: Re: Europa-List: Re: Power loss, on taxi, vapour locking? From: Jeffrey Roberts Steve, After you fit the cowl especially the lower. Drop your tunnel from where the book says till the lower radiator almost touches the bottom of the cowl. This will open the gap between the and the tunnel ceiling and allow gobs of hot air out the back. Once I did that it solved all my cooling issues and I never had fuel boiling on the hottest of days. Steve, I fabricated an "L" shaped baffle that runs across the top of the exhaust and down the outside of the pipe, between it and the engine block. It solved my problem and also deflects heat away from the coils and ignition modules; another heat sensitive area...
