Rebuilding the instrument panel and working on a major weight reduction
program for The Little Dragon Lady. She has to loose about 50 lbs
(that's 3

Hi J=FCrgen,
Instrument panels you can get from Europa Aircraft for quite small
money.
They also have panel cuts with the Dynon D 100.
I have made my aluminium panels by myself. It needs some time but you
can
place your instruments where you want (see picture).
Good Luck,
Bruno

Betreff: Europa-List: CAD file of instrument panel
Hi,
I am about to make a new instrument panel and will replace all my vacuum
driven avionics with an Dynon D-100.
I would like to use a laser cut service but the laser will only move
with
the right software.
I am absolutely unexperienced in this matter.
Has somebody got a file of the shape of the main panel?
Or can somebody help me with the whole project?
Where can I find the plate to close the whole where the vacuum pump has
been
mounted?
Thank you

Barry, Yes we had a fine trip (Dresden/Prague/Jena) except that homeward
journey on Weds was in the face of strong head winds (max 47kts!!) all the
way with 28kts, gusting 38kts on landing in UK, fortunately only 20 degrees
off runway heading. Belgium requires prior permission for homebuilts and
charges 80+ euros for looking at your papers. Certainly loads of planes fly
from UK along Belgian coastline to Holland and haven't got shot down, but if
involved in an incident there is scope for them to get nasty with you.
I am in the middle of complaining to the Belgian government and
EASA about it, having refused to pay, and in the hope of bringing them into
line with the rest of Europe. Have you seen the Guide to Flying in Europe
which details which countries demand PPR- copy attached?

Subject: | Re: Battery Location with a 914 |
Tony, My mono/914/Woodcomp wobbly prop/fully equipped panel set up has the
Odyssey battery sitting over the pax footwell in front of the firewall,
where it sits in a small moulded tray secured by a nylon strap. It left the
C o G in reasonable position, but to achieve what I calculated as the ideal
position, I fitted 3lb lead block in front of the stern post. ( Giving
position 58.96" which allows any combination of pax 150 - 400lbs/baggage
0-80lbs/fuel0-110lbs) I suspect that the saving in extra heavy duty cable.
and support for a rear mounting more or less makes up for the 3 lbs weight
and it is certainly more convenient in the engine department.
So I wouldn't assume that you have a C o G problem, and would be
strongly tempted to plan a forward location until proved otherwise.

Gidday,
I have set up a rear battery location for my battery on the assumption that
I will have a CoG problem. I have a 914 with an Airmaster prop, and a normal
panel. Suffice to say, can I presume that I might need weight in the tail
and therefore having the battery back there is a good option, or can I
confidently place it under the baggage bay shelf ? I am about to buy cabling
for the battery which is why I am asking at this point.
If I do keep the aft location I am trying to work out a lightweight
containment that will accept a decent deceleration. The back of my head
looks better without a battery in the back of it. I have thought of using
rudder cable looped aft under the tailwheel leg attachment point, and then
forward onto the battery box. This Odyssey battery at least comes in a metal
battery case. Any input much appreciated.
Thanks

Very good, David. Stephan and I each parted with 80 to fly along the Belgian coastline
to/from Popham this summer. Hope to avoid it next time!
>>Have you seen the Guide to Flying in Europe which details which countries demand

The Channel Islands are listed as non-PPR. This is correct only for UK-registered
aircraft operating on Permit to Fly. For non-UK aircraft the approval/permission
is from the Director of Civil Aviation, who can be contacted by email on:
dca@gov.je. Stephan and I got permissions this way (quickly, friendly and
at no charge) both for Jersey and Guernsey, but poor weather before and after
Popham forced us to cancel visits to these nice islands.

The co-pilot's vent broke at the base of the plastic screw the first time I tried
to open it after installing it. I used super glue , but there is a small opening
when closed. I figured that I'd have to tape over it during the winter
months or when I went to 12-13K.
Has anybody coming up with a good fix? I'm going to the paint shop in the next
couple of weeks.

I formed my own NACA vents and ended them at vents that I got from a car scrapyard.
I think they are from a Ford Fiesta 1990's vintage.
Fantastic. Robust & lots of air.
I looked at the ones on offer at that time and thought that they were pretty junky
& they do not seem to have improved!

vents
Bob and

They work
fine if adjust them just with a bit tender!
It is very
easy if same time have a bit imagination that (The Knob) is a sweet clito
ris.
Do not broke it!
Maybe that
(ability to use those Naca vents with Russian vertical spiral) is deep in
side
in a Finnish nature: we have lived thousands of years just west from Russ
ia
and our borderline is about 1000 miles
long.

PS: if
honest during the building phase I hated them. But there were so many thi
ngs I
would have liked to do otherway or change. But I had not competence to do
so.
And did not want to use even more money. Hey I had a complete aircraft ki
t
they said! So I decided to go on with those vents. And using them gently
they have worked just fine. If I remember correct these are new ones '
I also
did broke them when trying them first time...and that is why I strenghten
ed
them some how ' maybe by using large area washers or
so.

That's why
we dislike them. Cheep=2C crapy=2C miserable adjustments. They broke
the first time I attempted to open/close them (thankfully=2C before they
were
installed). And they are not repairable. So they went into the
dust bin and I bought outrageously expensive but completely functional ve

(Ultimate Ventilators) from ACS.

Rebuilding
the instrument panel and working on a major weight reduction program for
The
Little Dragon Lady. She has to loose about 50 lbs (that's 3 Stone 8 for
you guys in the UK). And the CG has to go back into the middle of the
range. A new=2C light weight=2C low power=2C panel along with removal of
the
big alternator should take care of most of
that.
