Subject: | Desktop Europa Models |
I mentioned I had a desktop model of Europa Trigear and also had Mono
built too.
The guy who built mine is based in Angeles City, Luzon (Near the ex-USAF
Clark Air Base).
He can be contacted at arniecastro@ymail.com
A website review of some of his production can be seen at
http://angelescity.olx.com.ph/model-aircraft-iid-52348704
These Models are not perfect representations in my case. They were made
from a single scale basic drawing and some photos.
Tailplane and other areas certainly not Europa but these people would
put that right if given all the information.
Mine were a first try at a Europa and several years ago. The Factory is
still there as I visited it in February.
Might be worth making contact.

Different Bob, LOL
Bob,
The link still works. You just have to manually select and copy the entire
link (from the original email) and paste it into a web browser address bar.
For some reason, Matronics doesn't like long-winded text in its links, and
the click-on link gets truncated, rendering it useless.
Regards,
GregF

Subject: Europa-List: Flying Model of Europa
Hi to all.
As some interest was shown in Desktop type models of Europa, would
anyone be interested in buying a Europa Flying Model I have and will
most likely never start.
It is one of the RC Homebuilts models produced by Cleve Lee a Europa
Builder and details are as follows:
Scale: 1= 5.30 Wingspan:
61 1=81=842=9D (1562 mm) Wing Area: 550 in2 (3549 dm2)
Flying Weight: 6.8 =93 7.5 lbs (3.09 =93 3.41 kg)
Wing Loading: 29 oz/ft2
Length: 44=9D (1118 mm)
Radio: 5 Channels with 7 servos Engines:
.40 - .51 cu in 2 Cycle
.50 =93 .60 cu in 4 Cycle
It is presently 'hangared' in Ashland, MA but could be sent anywhere.
I'm in England BTW.
If you are interested please PM me at gholland@content-stream.co.uk
Picture from Build Manual attached.

Subject: | Re: SV: Oil tank breather catch bottle |
Hi Svein,
I agree that it is nice to install a device to prevent any oil vapor condensation
from the breather to stain the bottom of your fuselage. However, in my opinion,
the installation shown on your picture looks unsafe as there is very little
section for the vapor to escape. The result can be a too high pressure build
up in the oil tank and also in the crankcase with possible bad consequences:
- what makes the oil returning from the crankcase to the tank is the blow-by which
creates a pressure build-up inside the crankcase, pushing the oil out to the
tank. If the oil tank is not appropriately vented to the atmosphere or if the
vent is restricted significantly, then the differential pressure between the
crankcase and the tank will be reduced, possibly leading to a reduced flow of
oil back to the tank. In the worst case, you may end up with a full crankcase,
an empty tank... and then a dead engine!
- the increased pressure in the tank and the crankshaft may also cause the seals
to blow out, leading to loosing all your oil in flight.
I would suggest you increase the diameter of the venting hole of you bottle to
about 8 mm which is the diameter of the venting hose recommanded by Rotax.

Subject: | Re: Dynon AHAHRS question |
Ian,
We have GRT EFIS and located the magnetometer just aft of the D panel on a shelf
we made at the fuselage part line. GRT recommends in the wing tip. We really
wanted to have the magnetometer in the fuselage rather than in the wing since
we have glider wings as well.
This location has worked OK for us. We did have to shield the magnetometer (wrapped
with aluminum foil) because of RF when transmitting and we have had instances
where magnetic materials in the baggage bay affected it, so we watch where
we load things now (our tie down stakes!). The mass balance weight does not
affect the magnetometer in this location.
We know of several Europas that have their magnetometer located overhead between
the doors and it apparently works well there.
Hope this helps.

I have the MGL Gyros install in the over head between the two doors. I have air
ducted into this area from the tail and have two grasper vents in the panel
that covers this area.
This is close to the center of gravity and has very little steel.

Hi Remi,
I appreciate your comments.
There is some slack between the vent hose and the bottle opening, and there
is also a hole drilled in the neck of the bottle that can be seen above the
steel band in the photo (as you have noticed). The venting hole does not
seem to be as large as 8 mm, however, so I will drill out to 8 mm and add
two more holes around the neck. The fact that the engine has worked fine is
no excuse for not having paid proper attention to this - thanks again for
pointing it out.
Regards,
Svein
