Hi Ferg,
If it is of any interest (it may save you a lot of searching) we live quite
near London (30 miles) and are going to Helidon on Saturday returning
Sunday. If you wish we would be happy to accommodate you on Friday night
and transport you and the 'Authority' to Helidon and back.

" Cheers,
The Authority has just announced that we will be attending the
dinner on Saturday night in Hellidon. We have done everything we can so far
- ordered the desserts, etc. - have a room for the after-dinner night,
attempted to find Hellidon, sought BritRail advice on how to get there AND
failed in most. Travelling light.
We hope to travel to London Thursday night, arr Friday morning and
wander the streets begging and offering advice about Canada. After having
made overnight arrangements (Authority hasn't clarified that) we plan on
setting forth for Hellidon Saturday morning. BritRail says we can't get
there from here, so,
Advice on travel arrangements is humbly sought for two, starting early and
planning on check-in at the hotel after 3pm. The hotel says Banbury station
is closest and Daventry has no rail line. Busses are a possibility and we
don't rule out the back of a hay rick. I invite anyone going who has a clue
for London/Hellidon travel to reply. I promise to read, comprehend and
inwardly digest whatever sent and to send results back before Tuesday of
next week.
Pending clarification by The Authority, any suggestions greatfully received.
Cheers, Ferg"

Richard,
An excellent 2 penny=99s worth!
The purpose of the safety wire is to limit the extension of the
spring, preventing it opening sufficiently to allow it jump off the
lugs. If done correctly, the spring should not be able to escape, no
matter which way round it is assembled (unless something breaks). As
with so many things, it is better to address the cause of the problem
rather than the symptoms. It is the violent opening and closing of
the exhaust expansion joint that is probably responsible for the
spring =9Cjumping=9D off. Assuming that the ignition is timed
correctly and the carburettors are balanced, this will only occur
when the Rotax shakes its head during start-up, and to a lesser
degree during shut-down. I would hazard a guess that the true
solution to the problem would be Mark Burton=99s excellent =9CS
oft
Start=9D module.

One of the reasons this spring as shown needs a safety
wire is that the spring is on the wrong way round. The
openings face the lugs. So that it is easier to get the
spring on, and easier for it to jump off.
All my springs are put on the harder way with the spring
end openings away from the lug.

Hi Graeme,
Over 14 years I have replaced many of the stainless springs supplied with the kit.
This all ended when I changed from stainless to galvanized springs. Since
then no more breakages.
Just a tip.
Best regards
