    Subject: Exhaust joints
    From: "JonSmith" <jonsmitheuropa@tiscali.co.uk>
Hi, On my exhaust system (912ULS with standard XS fit) should I seal/ lubricate the joints? By this I mean the 4 ball joints where the top of the exhaust pipes bolt onto the cylinders and also the other 4 ball joints where the bottom end of the down pipes fit into the silencer box. In the build manual there was no reference to doing this so I did not do so - just fitted them dry. I now notice that around these joints -mainly the lower ones held by the springs - there are signs of escaping exhaust gasses - light grey streaks. If I should be applying a product here I would be grateful for advice on what product to use and where (in the Uk) to get it! Cheers, Jon -------- G-TERN Classic Mono Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=364070#364070

Jon, The Rotax installation manual for 912ULS states on p.42: "All ball joints have to be greased regularly with heat resistant lubricant (e.g. LOCTITE ANTISEIZE) to avoid gripping and seizing the joints." I think you can use any recognized copper based exhaust system grease available at auto supply stores. Whether such lubricant also has a sealing effect over time is doubtful. If you have any seizure marks due to stuck joints, some exhaust gas may escape along these marks. On the cylinder joints, have you checked that the nuts are torque correctly? I had a problem with nuts coming loose, but have now safety wired the nuts. Regards, Svein LN-SKJ

    From: "db308" <dino.agnes@internode.on.net>
Greetings, I am considering installing Mod 68 Electric Flap on my Classic. Has anyone done this mod? What are your thoughts? Does it make retracting the gear easier? (my main reason for doing the mod). Regards, John Baker, #181. Australia. Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=364142#364142

John=0Ano, flap retraction requires very little force, the flaps are almost aerodynamically neutral, consider where the flap pivot is. The only load y ou feel is the drag load, normally very low.=0AYou will note that in-flig ht-you can place the flaps anywhere and they will stay put if you let go the flap lever. Unless the gear elastic has gone loose then the weight of t he gear will pull them down.=0AGraham=0A=0A=0A_____________________________ ___=0A From: db308 <dino.agnes@internode.on.net>=0ATo: europa-list@matronic s.com =0ASent: Tuesday, 17 January 2012, 22:34=0ASubject: Europa-List: Elec " <dino.agnes@internode.on.net>=0A=0AGreetings,=0AI am considering installi ng Mod 68 Electric Flap on my Classic.
