Martin, I have varied between Traffords, Hall & Clarke and
Haywards over the years usually getting quotes from at
least two and often getting the second best to beat the
best when informed of the other firm's quote. Currently
Traffords are clear best. For what it's worth (not much I
guees as it's a lot of hours and long no claims) I have
just renewed at 1014 for hull 40k and trailer 2.5k with
all bells and whistles for a 914 mono XS.

New on the list, just out of my egg:
Bought my self the first stage kit with al New Generation control
surfaces.
Wonderful and sw=E9=E9=E9d.
A few things are hard to understand though. For instance, I have no
documentation about the little cap on top of the rudder. Does anyone
have
any pictures or drawings that can help me out. A builders log would be
the
ultimate off course.
All pictures, drawings, measurements are more than welcome.

Yes I have a copy of the Mod 13070 and it is available from me and on the
new web site. In LAA terms it will be a repeat Mod (22.50) at present but
I can probably get it made a standard mod (then FOC) if there is enough

To All Europa Club members and friends
The new Europa website is now released to you at www.theeuropaclub.org -
I urge you all to take a look at what has been achieved on your behalf.
Can I draw your attention to the 'Flight Briefing' pages, as we feel
that they will prove to be of considerable practical value to those
flying, and will allow you to replace Guernsey Aeroclub pages from your
favourites.
The site has been a long time coming and is still 'work in progress' but
we hope that you will agree that it contains much practical information
and advice on building, flying and owning your Europa.
I must stress that this is your website and your contributions are
essential to the development and success of the Club. We would like your
views and would like to have Letters/emails/etc to put into the next EF
due in the Summer.
I must say a big thank you to all the committee for the hard work that
has gone into this creation. I do not want single out anyone but it is
truly amazing what efforts have gone into this production, and will
continue in the months to come. Whilst it is true that it has a
significant UK slant this is to be rectified by the input that we would
like from you all outside of these shores. Pages can be created for any
of the areas that the Europa is based so let Tim Houlihan have some copy
asap.
I said I would not single out anyone but special thanks go to Sam Fidler
who has created the website for us and also ensured that the Committee
receives the necessary training to take this forward.

Yes it is down, in fact for good.
Steve Pitt will be putting out an e-mail in the next hour covering what has
happened. This will direct you to the new site "theeuropaclub.org". You
will find this has much of the old site and a lot more. What it will not
have for a week or two is the ability to pay subs.

The old website had been hosted by a long serving member for many years and
we thank him for his support. Unfortunately the closure of his server
happened slightly earlier than we had anticipated, hence the loss of the old

We look forward to hearing your views on the new website.

Hi,
If the Kit you have was supplied more than 3 years ago, you will have the c
orrect master cylinder seals loose, with which to replace the original [ i
nstalled] seals with.[KART M/C]
This will let you use the red [ cherryade] aircraft brake fluid which the M
atco calipers are set up to use.
If the Kit is a very recent one, God alone knows which replacement seals yo
u will have, same as if you request new seals now.
You can use DOT 5 Silicone fluid with the master cylinders and Matco calipe
rs as they are, but it is awful stuff to use and a disaster if it gets on a
ny part of the structure.
Cheers,
Nev.

Subject: | Re: Laminova heat exchanger and Evans coolant |
Hi Frans and others,
Maybe a little late but herewith what I experienced with Evans in my trigear XS
with 912S and a regular setup. I flew my plane with Evans and was happy with
the cooling performance.
Until I got an coolant hose which ruptured just after take-off. The first thing
I noticed was a little smoke entering the cockpit followed by a very bad smell
(a little like burning plastic). So I was thinking at first it was fire. Pulling
back the power made the smoke disappear. After landing I noticed the Evans
dripping out of the cowling. This happened abroad and during the weekend (of
course).
We were lucky that there were a lot of very helpful people around (thank you again
for all the help) so the replacement of the hose was not the biggest deal.
But it was impossible to get Evans anywhere. So I filled it up with plain water
to fly back home.
Flying home I noticed that the engine (oil and water) was running approx. 10 degr.
C cooler (less then 80 degr C in level flight) and that the temperature of
the water was fluctuating significant more. (from a climb to level flight or
with different powersettings).
So from the cooling performance side I preferred the Evans, but from the practical
side I preferred glycol/water mix. From the safety side I preferred glycol/water,
I know now how bad Evans smells when it leaks on your exhaust and what
kind of smoke it generates. I have not done research on this subject but it cannot
be healthy (at least I think). I realize that glycol/water smells an smokes
too, but not so bad as Evans.
I use now a water/glycol mix with a max. temperature limit of 150 deg. C but I
still have to make a cowl flap to control my temperatures. (at lower temperatures
I use tape to make my cooling air intake approx. 75% smaller and run still
at pretty low temps. The only times that (mainly water)temperatures go up pretty
much is in warm weather and long or slow climbs.
Regards,
Kees de Bussy

One question to the Europa Club: The Europa Fly-In at Popham is not
mentioned under "Upcoming Events". Is it still scheduled for 23rd & 24th
June?
