Rowland - I tried to take some pictures this morning but could not get the
right resolution to help with your enquiry.
However, I checked my aircraft and can see that I cut a piece of plywood
(possibly about a foot long) and fibregalssed it onto the inside of the tail
on either side of the vertical surfaces, forward of and level with the top
of the trimtube slots. I then cut a 'u' shape slot between them to allow the
trim tube to move up and down but restricted the side to side movement.
This version means that the side slots remain open but also means that the
TS05 is not altered which might lead to jamming if the discs were to move.
I hope this helps.
Steve

Hi Fred,
This is Dean Wiegland's kit for sale on Barnstormers and it's been for sale for
at least 2 years to my knowledge. Not sure why he can't sell it as photos show
it to be ok but of course shipping (outside the US especially) is the killer.
Also, on the basis that you can't really trust the shipping people not to
break it, you'd have to go and fetch it yourself.

I believe the factory jumped in on this one a few years ago, and warned
against such
A mod, I believe they were concerned with icing etc jamming up the trim

Compromising the flight performance.
I may be wrong however

I seem to recall that someone on this forum mentioned adding small
lightweight discs near the ends of the TS05 cross-piece, inside the
fuselage. This had the dual effect of keeping the TS05 from moving sideways
while rigging and de-rigging (reinforcing that provided by the ply pieces
called out in the manual) and also improving the cosmetic appearance of the
slot in which TS05 operates.
I've searched the back postings using various keywords that I thought likely
but can't turn up what I'm looking for.
Would the original poster (or someone who remembers the posting) please help
me find it? Date of the post, who made it, or a copy of the original would

Roland
I remember the posting but have no record of it
I did the attached drawing for someone who, in effect, asked the same
question. I will get it into the web site soon

to add, this is not an area of rigging which (in my experience) I have ever
had any problems, including rigging single handed. Technique I use is to fu
lly put on one tailplane, (starbord), attach the ts05 to lug on that side,
then put on the port tailplane to within about 1/4 inch of fully in, put t
he ts05 tube half into the lug on the port side, so the tube is now half i
n the lugs on both sides, and then push the port tailplane fully home.

I rig and derig the airplane for every flight and I follow the very same
procedure as described by Roddy. It is no problem at all. I always rig
the tailplanes without any help (my wife has another task during that
stage of rigging). I can't imagine how changes to the TS05 guidance
could make the procedure easier: you still have to guide the TS05 to the
lug. And the sideways play of the TS05 actually helps as you can now
separate inserting the TS05 from aligning the tailplane on the torque
tube. If the TS05 could not move sideways you have to aligh everything
at the same moment which would make it much more complicated.
Furthermore my feeling is that this is a "no-mess" area. Anything put
there might break loose and jam the tailplane and trim, which I'm sure
is no fun flying. What isn't there can't break loose. Just keep it
simple here.
Frans

Rowland...I may have been the culprit...but in due course I abandoned
the notion in order NOT to add a potential glitch to pitch control.
I ended up building a little foam box with a screened slot which
centers TS05 and (hopefully) keeps the birds and insects from
venturing into the tailcone...here are a couple of pixs:
