Hi! Richard,
No worries because I was last night set to join you when I realised my
Skyforce 111C card is away for update ! Now of course. It's not recommended
to fly being dependent on one's GPS but.......!!!!
Duncan is asking why there's never one called for a weekend? So I'm thinking
about one for Saturday at Elstree (EGNW)since there's a Pooley's shop and a
good cafe there and I need some charts for the forthcoming North Baltics,
Finnish Fly In and North Cape Tour on 31st May .
Watch this space I'm checking on landing fees and opening times ....back in
a few minutes.

The Microlight Fair is on at Popham over this weekend.
Weather on Saturday looks too strenuous for an old boy like me but Sunday looks
OK.
There is always a good mixture of aviators there and of course the chaos of arrival
and landings.
The Flexwing Brigade seem to have a difference in understanding regarding arrival
disciplines.
It's the closest you can get to a WWI dogfight!

Thanks Gerry for the plug.
Just to remind you all that the Club will have a marquee at Popham to ensure
a warm welcome to you all on Saturday and Sunday. Catering will be
(hopefully) available.

Hi! Richard,
I was all set to walk out the house this morning when I realised my
Skyforce
Tracker 111C card was away for update !
So whether it is acceptable to fly depending on the GPS or not
unfortunately
I won't be attending your DOTH. Sorry.
However Duncan is miffed as to why there are never weekend DOTHS.
So I will call one for Saturday 5th May at Elstree(EGTR)Particularly
because
there=92s a good Cafe and also a Pooley=92s shop there and I need to
update some
charts for the Europa tour to North Baltic=92s, Finland and the North
Cape
commencing 31st May !
However landing instructions for Elstree are quite unusual.
MUST HAVE PPR before coming to the DOTH. Tel.0208 953 7480 .
Look carefully at Pooley=92s page and make sure you understand the
approach
and departure. It=92s a long four mile run each way and you will need
to mix
with ALL other types of aircraft and be considerate towards their speeds
too
and understand the noise abatement rules.
Please remember a go around means a trip out to the M25 following the
noise
abatement rules and rejoining back at the 4 miles. It takes about 15
minutes. NO CIRCUITS PERMITTED. And the Southern Boundary is almost on
the
Heathrow TMA and runway 08 has quite a down slope.
Watch out for masts in the locality especially whilst keeping under
London
TMA.
Elstree telephone number is 0208 8953 7480, fuel is available 100LL and
Jet
A1 only.
Landing fees for a Europa are =A310.00..... Pooley=92s shop is open 10am
through
4pm.(Saturdays)
All aircraft are to have two way radio contact with Elstree, ( 122.40 )
call
before the 4 mile. Most base aircraft use Lee valley lakes or BNN the
FISO
will provide you with details of traffic and joining instructions.
Unfortunately Sunday looks to be the better day but Pooley=92s are only
open
on Saturday.
However I will publish a final check for a =93go=94 or =93no go=94 at
0700 on
Saturday morning then as ever it is up to the PIC to make their final
decision.
Regards to all.

Thanks for that Gerry....I guess I should have checked the diary listings
but not being a micro light flyer my charts are more important at this
stage. !

Sounds good, I will be there with G-CGNZ.
Is PPR required, or is it just a case of turning up?
I heard they wanted all A/C on the ground before midday, are there any
restrictions on leaving after that time?

You may be able to get your Charts at Popham.
Ring up a couple of suppliers and see if they are going to be there.
Also you have Steve serving your beverage of choice.....hopefully!
With so much of the 'Microlight' world now having such clever airplanes now and
many going above 499kgs, it's worth a trip.
The EuroFox at up to 560kgs and folding wings is a very nice aircraft. Prices though
are very steep.
The Europa is still a very capable aircraft and certainly has more space than many.

Does anyone know the max climb angle for a 914 powered trigear? I have to do a
fuel flow test with min fuel & the aircraft suspended in max climb. I don't see
this listed in the Operators Manual.
I think it would be slightly different for each aircraft so an average would be
OK?

Gerry,
I think the landing instructions during the microlight trade fair will be
even more difficult than those for Elstree. Easy on paper, but add a number
of aircraft ignoring the instructions and general circuit bad
manners/frustration in an over-full circuit....!

Duncan Hi. Glad to read you are alive and well.
I think what you have said is a complete under statement.
War Zone is the most minimal description I can make.
The average Flex Wing Pilot is in a world of their own let alone in the company
of hordes of others.
R/T is not a strong subject in their syllabus along with complete intolerance to
Barometric pressure and circuit height and pattern.
That said it has some amusement once you are safely on the ground or outbound by
10 miles!
Are you going?

Err....does not compute!!
The smaller size in any case would be susceptible to blockage, unless the
filter size matches.

Subject: Europa-List: Re: Fuel Return Line
--> <air.guerner@orange.fr>
It is always instructive to have look at what is done on type certificated
aircraft. Attached pages from the Diampnd Katana show the aircraft fuel
system. As you can see: the return line goes to the top of the fuel tank,
which is located behind the seat, as in the Europa. There was a one way
valve in the return line of the first 90 production aircraft. Then the one
way valve was removed on subsequent production aircraft and a Service
Bulletin was issued to allow the retrofit of this modification, probably for
a good reason.
Another thing is the diameter of the restrictor. The diameter of the
restrictor supplied with the kit by Europa is .75 mm while ROTAX specifies
.35 mm in their 912 series Installation Manual. I believe .35 is appropriate
whenever the return line goes to the top of the tank and the bigger diameter
is necessary in the Europa configuration due to somme back pressure caused
by the line returning to the bottom of the tank.

Hi! All
Actually Elstree is quite easy ...just no circuit in the usual manner so
basically get established on long final at either end. It really is a
circuit but from about 15 miles out without a base and down wind !!!
They had to keep me in the air for 15 minutes about a couple of weeks ago
some jerk lost a wheel on the runway !!
Well worth a drop in . Prefer to playing with knats anyway !!!
