      Not miswired, in the Schicke regulator that is where they have the indicator lamp
      and I chose to go without it.

      Hi Peter, 
      Interesting circuit diagram, Thanks for posting it .
      I was amazed to see that the VPX its self and the 
      MGL unit are not protected by a fuse or circuit breaker - they must be reliable
      !
      Also, Ira's observation  seems correct,

      Peter,
      
      The shunt is a low value resistor through which all current out of the
      alternator flows. The small voltage generated by the current gives
      you your ammeter signal to the MGL.  It has nothing to do with the 
      Alternator Warning lamp.
