William,
Yes I altered my own aircraft a few years ago and I am right in the middle
of altering my daughters aircraft at this very moment.
It is a reasonably straightforward job if you did the build but the kit to
do it is very expensive for what you get.
The difference in the baggage volume is fantastic. For us the decider was
our first week long trip to Spain where we constantly had baggage in the
original Classic bay falling onto our heads. The new bay just swallows
everything we throw at it (bearing in mind weight & balance of course).

Subject: Europa-List: Installing baggage area increase mod
Has anyone modified a completed Europa Classic from normal baggage area
to increased baggage area? Is it difficult, time consuming, expensive?
I suspect this question has already been asked on this forum before. Any
tips on how to search archived discussion threads appreciated.

Did this during the build and no regrets. Also relevant to a previous quest
ion about folding bikes... Having done the mod I managed to 2 full size roa
d bikes in the back - wheels, pedals and saddles off, and stacked wheel, fr
ame, wheel, frame, wheel, wheel. Rear forks resting between the headrests,
and all well tied down! Just about ok for weight and balance and made for a
very enjoyable weekend cycling in scotland.
So.. recommended mod.

Hi Isaac
I was wondering if you eventually found out what this gremlin was, I have experienced
the exact symptoms, on my 914/Gyro combo. I am in South Africa and my
search seemed to point me to this forum. I would appreciate if you or someone
could post a response to what the cure was.
Kindest regards

Hi Peter,
All the necessary manuals for the Rotax 914 are available free, without signing
up, from the site: Rotax-Owner.com
But I would highly recommend signing up for full site access. The learning videos
are very good if you have the internet bandwidth to support them.
I don't have a cure for you because you don't specifically provide the conditions
in which you have the blinking orange lamp. It is normal for all the TCU lamps
to light and blink on application of power to the system. This indicates
a normal startup system check is occurring and all is well when they all go out.
During operation, this is another matter.
According to the Rotax 914 Operators Manual "Section 4.4.3) Orange caution lamp
of the TCU blinking
In case of blinking of the orange caution lamp of the TCU, this has to be recorded
by the pilot in the logbook, stating the duration exact time and extent of
exceeding limits.
NOTICE: If the manually controlled variable is not possible, then turn off the
servo motor.
Possible cause: Indicates a failure of a sensor, sensor wiring, TCU, or leakage
in the airbox.
Remedy: Reduce speed and boost pressure manually to be within the operating limits.
Limited flying operation, as this may indicate the boost pressure control
isno more or insufficiently possible and may affect engine performance."
Can you provide more detailed information about the situation of your blinking
orange light?

Subject: | Life rafts in the Europa |
Hi Gentlemen
Must be getting more safety conscious as I get older, having crossed the channel
dozens of times every which way, without life raft, only now am Iconsidering
one.
Just a quick poll. Does anyone take a life raft as part of the standard aircraft
kit? Now there are new super light, life rafts available, weighing in at only
6Kilos e.g. Revere. Whereas the more traditional weigh in at 12 to 15 kilo.
This light weight raft option still allows me to take full fuel and two suitcases
Am tempted at 6 kilo to be out of the water in life jacket and with PLB.
Regards
Bob

Subject: | glide ratio XS Shortwing |
Hi Family
Is there some information about the glide ratio of the Monowheel XS (and
TriGear) by maximum take off weight with or without extended flaps?
It would helpful to know by engine failure or other nice happenings how far
I can fly (glide) with standing prop at say 2500 feet before I kiss the
ground.
I have checked all available leaflets, brochures etc, but could find
nothing.
Information about this would be very helpful.
Nice and safe flights to all,
Bruno

Subject: | Changing HT leads on Rotax UL914 |
Hello ALL.
I think i should have stuck to Flight Simulators, Having just purchased G-PEGY
Mag drop on left mag, top row sparking plugs ,
Have 2 new caps, so tried 2 a side in turn, No Change in mag drop.
Started engine , run on left mag only, with Front top right lead off, engine sounded
the same so think its this one is the problem.
All the bloody top plug leads go to the bottom side of the mag, ie (the electronic
unit), So you can,t get to them to un screw the leads.
The complete unit is mounted on rubber cotton real, 3 of them, one at the back
and two at the front.
You can-not get a spanner on them, i have tried all ways, purchased cranked spanners
and ground it down to slip over nut , no good.
Finally i have managed to release the rear back mag mount and the inboard front
cotton reals mount.
The outboard front rubber cotton real mount ,again no spanner will go in,
This rubber mounting fits over a cast stud which is part of the inlet housing.
Now i don,t know if the cotton real is just pushed over this stud pin, and has
over the years corroded alloy and steel together, so NOW it won,t pull off.
Or if it is held with this inside bolt which i cannot get to.
Will put some grips on the real and give it a wriggle see if it moves.
Once this is released i can do the 59 second job of screwing the new leads on.
Just hope i can release it tomorrow .
Has any body done this job before, Help
Regards
Alan
