I am enjoying reading this discussion.... We are going through the same ours
elves. Here is my dynon screen of progress so far, this is in steady cruise
. I am wondering if fuel burn is a bit too high still. We have just reduced
damming on cylinder 6 so hopefully it will come down a bit. Egt still very u
neven.

Congratulations on getting the testing finished.
The Europa stall warner does have its idiosyncrasies. It will "bleat" at
you taxing down wind, parked tail to wind, gusty day and in the hanger with
the doors open etc. Personally I have it connected after the master switch
so avoiding the hanger problem. In general it works well and my definition
of a tidy landing is when the wheel touch on velvet and the stall warner
goes off at exactly the same time.
The stall strips do help define the stall, seem to offer no performance
penalty and are worth putting on.

Andy Draper has now completed the test flying and conducted a full flight
test all is now OK and I am waiting for the Permit to fly.
We did have a lot of trouble calibrating the ASI,the problem was traced to
the static probe, my original had only 2 holes in the plastic end where as
the drawing shows 4. My thanks to Ian Rickard for having a spare which once
fitted reduced the error to +2 kts at 60 IAS from 2.5 and -3 kts at 120 IAS
from -6 kts.
We also have had a lot of trouble setting the stall Warner, its fine in the
air and we have set it up to sound about 8kts before the stall, however it
comes on in the hanger on its own. I reached a decision that we were never
going to get the stall Warner to work properly so fitted stall strips as per
the "Owners Manual", we now have a very predictable stall with buffet about
2-3 knots before. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
The only other thing we had to do was reduce the max cause pitch setting on
the Woodcomp SR3000 prop so as to attain the min climb performance of
300ft/min required by the LAA.
I have bought a covered trailer to store ZV in which means that I now have a
purpose built open Tri-gear trailer for sale. its in good order freshly
painted and serviced anyone in the UK interested?

In the Netherlands, and I think in most of Europe, you need a special
driving licence for such a trailer. And there are restrictions on the
type of car used to tow it. Furthermore, such a trailer needs to be
registered and you can not build it yourself.
I have the required license and the required type of car, but I had to
give up on getting the custom trailer licensed. It is far easier here to
get a registration for a homebuilt airplane than for a custom built
trailer. So, I'm forced to keep the trailer unlicensed, and that means
that it is limited to a total weight of 750 Kg's (including the load)
and "single axle" (which may also be dual axle provided the axles are
adjacent to each other).
In such a situation, (especially with "one" axle) it is best to load the
airplane backwards so the trailer's axle can be close to the rear. You
are right about the rudder lock, that is really necessary, but for the
rest I don't see any disadvantages.
There is another advantage: if I unload the airplane on our local grass
strip I can just hop in and taxi away, no need to replace the trailer or
to turn the aircraft around in the grass. This is really convenient.

Any pictures about these wheel pants?

Frans,
That all sounds a bit draconian.
Here in the UK we are not restricted, and can freely build our own trailers.
(I speak from experience having built 10 trailers in my time, including my
enclosed Europa Mono trailer).
Our main restrictions are a max all up weight of 3500 Kgs provided the tow
car has a specification to tow it and properly approved tow hook assembly
and suspension plus the usual brakes on trailers over 750 Kgs and lights
etc.

Subject: | Dimensions and source fuel filler pipe rubber? |
Hi All,
Can anyone tell me what type of rubber to use to connect the tank to the aluminium
elbow of the fuel filler pipe? Also, what are it's dimensions (inner-outer
diameter and appr. length), and where can I best buy this?
Also, I could do with a little advise on the clips to use. I read somewhere on
the forum to disregard jubilee-clips, and instead use 'round-automotive' ones.
I don't remember who wrote that, and if that statement still holds. If someone
could please advise on brand/partnumbers for these clips, that would be awesome.
A speedy response and advise would be very welcome, since I need to replace it
before next flight which is planned early next week...
Thanks in advance!

Hi Ian,

True, but it's worth remembering that if the aircraft is vibrating a lot (due to
the engine running very roughly), the pre-stall buffet is quite likely to be
undetectable.
Having been in that situation (engine running so roughly as to make continued flight
impossible), I am pretty sure that if the speed had decreased sufficiently
for the stall strips to become effective, the first thing I would have noticed
was the wing dropping.
Even with the stall strips fitted, the speed margin between buffet and stall on
a Europa can be uncomfortably small. It's all very well doing a few stalls at
height in an LAA flight test and happily noting down that there's 3kt (or whatever)
buffet margin but in a real engine failure situation the pilot is under
real pressure and that small margin is likely to come and go without them noticing.
Cheers,
Mark

Hi Marcel
The spring type clips tend to come in smaller sizes to the size you need,
I cut down my existing rubber pipe and used two small pieces to connect to
the Cobra and tank using jubilee clips, I haven=92t had any problems in fiv
e
years,
Best wishes
Ivor

Thank you Ivor for sharing your experience with the clips you use.
Since I do not have the original rubber hose and I have not yet taken off the existing
rubber hose, I am hoping that someone on the forum can provide me with
inner-outer diameter and type of hose to use, so that I can get some before starting
the replacement process...
