I was thinking the same about the twist for the PV50. Unfortunately the prop is
in such a state now that I cannot measure the twist, I could not find technical
specs for the PV50 on the internet either. Anybody out there that has the specs
on the PV50 and willing ot share?

For comparison with others I measure twist as the
difference between the tip and the bit 1/3 out from the
centre. The SR300W, all turbo props, Red Bull racers and
any old prop driven fighter will have twists of around 26
degrees whereas SR2000s & Warp Drives have twists around
only 12 degrees. I had assumed that the Arplast is similar
but would be interested in an actual measurement. Regards,

Hi,
I've cut out the fuel tank for the factory Werner fuel gauge,
it comes with a rubber gasket but I'm not happy with it sealing around the
five AN bolts, what can be used as a sealant for the gauge ?, I Know I can use
redux as a last resort,

Steve Hi!
I remember using some stuff from ACS called PTS PROSEAL 890-CLASS B-TYPE I
One downside. It seems to cost around $75 now, probably 75 if you ordered through
LAS.
I used it to seal all fuel system connections and it was particularly good on capacitive
fuel sender gaskets and the fuel filler connections.
Regards
Gerry

Steve - on advice from Brian Fogg who found it was the final answer to the fuel
smell from his level sender, I used Loctite 5922 to seal the flange of the factory
fuel gauge sender to the tank . Brian got his from Halfords, but my local
branch never had any on several tries, so I got mine from Grampian Fasteners.

Hope this helps.

Subject: | 912ULS engine mount - loose Binx nut |
Hi all,
Just a word of caution:
The Rotax engine ring mount is bolted to the Europa engine frame with four
bolts with M10 Binx nuts (the Binx nut version that is slightly oval inside
before screwed on to the bolt, thus having a selflocking function).
Inspecting the engine today, with both cowl parts removed, I discovered that
the nut had unscrewed itself so much that I could easily turn the nut and
the bolt around (meaning, by the way, that the three other bolts were
holding the engine firmly in place). Total 171 hours.
The "Rotax 912S Installation Manual" (my version and also the current one on
Europa's web site) specifies neither a certain torque nor any Loctite on
these nuts, indicating that the nuts are assumed to lock sufficiently well.
I remember clearly that I called Europa back then, and a very skilled
representative of the company confirmed that no specific torque was
required, just tighten it.
I certainly hope that my case is unique, but you are all advised to check
regularly.
I had to remove the muffler to get to the bolt head at the back. Definitely
some restriction to turn the nut on the bolt, but I put on Locktite 270 to
be safe (stronger than the Locktite 243 recommended for the ring
mount-to-engine bolt nuts).
On the attached photo you will see the marks made with water-proof felt pen
on the nut and the ring mount for easy detection of any nut movement,
re-drawn after tightening. The marks not lining up is how I noticed that
something was wrong.
Fly safely.
Regards,
Svein

Hi All,
What about the Gasket ?, I'm thinking of scrapping it and using one of those
sealants to bond the flange directly to the top of the fuel tank - did any of
you scrap the gaskets ?

I used just the gasket then one day when I filled the tank all the way up it leaked
everywhere. I added pro seal on both sides of the gasket which was the messiest
job ever and it has't leaked since.

Subject: | Trigear conversion; only 80hp. Advice please. |
Please would anyone who has personal experience of having flown a classic monowheel
for many hours with Rotax 912UL 80hp and then converted the same aircraft
to a trigear, advise me on the performance aspect during take-off. My aircraft
has the superb Airmaster AP332 propeller which greatly improved take-off and
climb once it was fitted.
Also it has the strengthening mod which allows me to operate up to 1370 lbs. I
fly off a 500 metre grass strip and when I get airborne on warm (20C) days near-fully
laden in calm wind, the intial climb is sluggish until I can retract the
flaps/uc and accelerate to 75 kts. Then it'll manage 700 - 800 fpm.
I realise that as soon as the wheels come off the ground, then the climb performance
should be the same , whichever undercarriage is fitted. My real concern
is whether the trigear has a noticeably longer take-off roll on grass which could
affect obstacle clearance.
My budget won't stretch to the 100hp engine and I might be forced to relocate to
a different airfield with a tar runway. Don't really want to move though.

Steve - why discard the gasket? I saw no reason to do so. It must provide a better
seal to the slightly-flexible tank than the metal flange would by itself.

David, Graham and others,
I will take it upon myself to come up with the numbers on the twist of the Arplast
PV50 and publish them here in due time.
