Thank you very much, David (Joyce), for the very comprehensive and well-written article on flying over water in the most recent issue of The Europa Flyer magazine. Many valuable points regarding ditching and equipment that may save one's life. It makes landing in lakes and rivers appear much more "attractive" than before as an alternative to rocks and trees, provided a life jacket is worn. I will definitely consider to wear it all the time. Regards Svein LN-SKJ

Svein, Thanks for the kind words. A large study in the States had shown a mortality of landing in trees of around 10% - that is much the same as their raw mortality for ditching, but there were understanably a lot more broken bones and wearing a lifejacket did not help much in the trees! regards, David Joyce On Wed, 10 Oct 2012 09:35:51 +0200 "Sidsel & Svein Johnsen" <sidsel.svein@oslo.online.no> wrote: > Thank you very much, David (Joyce), for the very >comprehensive and > well-written article on flying over water in the most >recent issue of The > Europa Flyer magazine. > > > > Many valuable points regarding ditching and equipment >that may save one's > life. > > > > It makes landing in lakes and rivers appear much more >"attractive" than > before as an alternative to rocks and trees, provided a >life jacket is worn. > I will definitely consider to wear it all the time. > > > > Regards > > Svein > > LN-SKJ > > > > >

Dave, I am discussing the possibility of a friend of mine doing your son's checkout. He's the fellow who did the first flight of my Europa monowheel and he did several hours of dual with me as well. He's a 20 year Reserve x-Navy fighter pilot in F-8 & A-7 with 2 tours in Viet Nam and a long career as Captain for Southwest. He owns and flies a Bonanza, RV-7, Little Toot Sport Biplane & Stearman. He's the best pilot I have ever known. Only issue, you'd have to fly your son and Europa here for the checkout. Are you interested? Hi Graham and All. Bud i did not know you have been unwell. Hope you recover soon and see you back on the Forum. Graham I was on my own yesterday when i carried out buds checks, I also tried moving the tail planes deferentially from the in front again no movement. You can not do this test by yourself and get a proper result. Today i rechecked the tail plan with another person holding one of the Stabalator planes down against the stops, while i twisted the other, I found it moved about 3/8 to 1/2", The Night Mare Begins. Mod 73 is signed in the log at 18/08/2007 at 165 Hours today it has done 358 hours. The Band Aid Fix , well Bud you are spot on, and i reckon there will be a lot more Europas the same. I think of the plane as know grounded or just a positioning flight. Can anybody help , (Aircraft is in the UK) What should i do now,? Is there somebody i can contact to come and fix it,? Is there a place i could take the aircraft to, for repair.? Or do i poor in more Loctite which seems a crude way to fix such a vital component. I have throughout my truncated build [7 years] always taken note of your informed and beautifully articulated prose, the subject matter always interesting the value immense. 5 years ago I was subjected to the same indignities and in "that test" scored 10 out of 10 something I have never managed to do in schooling. The only option for me was radiotherapy or an op, I chose the latter after long discussions with my wife and doctors. All went well I recovered and just regained my PPL in time to be diagnosed with Leukaemia, that took a little longer to sort! Alan, As discussed previously, get a Europa experienced LAA inspector to take a look at it. It is important not to confuse flexing with play. If there is play you will feel/hear a distinct "clunk". Hi Brian. To me it feels like play, i will check again, and slide the Stablators off and check inserts making sure they are bonded. I am just a pilot but i could have done a better job in designing this linkage. As this has the possibility of grounding the aircraft for some considerable time, due to the fact that clamps are individually made to size, Why has,t something not been done about it.?? Why can,t you get a complete unit with clamps already made, so the job could be done in one go, say a day, not grounded for 2 months. Alan=0AI was thinking about what I told you and I'm sorry, I missed somethi ng out. To check for play you should remove the pip pins, the play you are looking for is in the pins that hold the drive plates to the torque tube. =0AGraham=0A=0A=0A________________________________=0A From: Alan Carter <al ancarteresq@onetel.net>=0ATo: europa-list@matronics.com =0ASent: Wednesday, 10 October 2012, 20:24=0ASubject: Europa-List: Re: Mod 73=0A =0A--> Europa -List message posted by: "Alan Carter" <alancarteresq@onetel.net>=0A=0AHi G raham and All.=0ABud i did not know you have been unwell.
