Hi Alan, Refer to the Builders Manual, Chapter 23, pages 2, 3 and 4 for view / acces s panel position and structure. This is how it should have been done by the original builder..... but some out there thought they knew better....... Do these on the Stb side if you are right handed, on the Port if you are le ft handed. Very difficult to do once the fuselage top is on. If there is an inspection hole further aft where the XS tailspring was installed, you can work through that to do the lay up's for the new panels. I had to do just that to get to the torque tube on the imported Europa I have in my workshop As to the inserts / slugs, next time you are in Ronnie McVomit's, get a str aw and flex it between your fingers, it will bend quite a way without faili ng.... now shove a stiring stick up the straw and apply the same force, it will buckle where the stick ends.[ have a jacket on with deep pockets, libe rate a handfull of mixing sticks !] Don't reckon on anything fast happening at L.A.A. Cheers, Nev. -----Original Message----- From: Alan Carter <alancarteresq@onetel.net> Sent: Tue, 16 Oct 2012 22:49 Subject: Europa-List: Re: Mod 73 Craig. lugs over here are pests in the garden , but i know what you mean, all good deas. ots of solutions have been posted, But here in the UK the only options we h ave re Resizing the pins, Fitting Bob Harrison or Pat Tunny,s clamps, e Loctite use, or fitting one of Europa,s updated tubes. nything about inspection panel and access to the pins would be really usefa ll o UK owners, as the tube has to come out. lan ead this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=385505#385505 -= - The Europa-List Email Forum - -= Use the Matronics List Features Navigator to browse -= the many List utilities such as List Un/Subscription, -= Archive Search & Download, 7-Day Browse, Chat, FAQ, -= Photoshare, and much much more: - -= --> http://www.matronics.com/Navigator?Europa-List - -======================== -= - MATRONICS WEB FORUMS - -= Same great content also available via the Web Forums! - -= --> http://forums.matronics.com - -======================== -= - List Contribution Web Site - -= Thank you for your generous support! -= -Matt Dralle, List Admin. -= --> http://www.matronics.com/contribution -========================

Hi Will, One washer on each bolt. I guess there many different approaches and mine was probably not the best but it made my day. The washer was mounted on a wooden stick (about 1/2=9D x 1/2") A slot was made that hold the washer on place. Tight. You have to press the washer into the slot. It was quite easy to put the washer on the bolt. Same stick (but the opposite side) was used in order to create a long handle to the spanner. A mark was made on the stick so I know exactly how far in the tube I was. The other hand on the bolt. The first tree were quite easy. On the fourth and last nut the washer went off and I had to rig the washer again. ( A small swearing was fired) Best regards Stephan LN-STE Mono

Thanks Neville. Phoned the LAA today ref. New Inspection Hole. Basically No, As i,m in the UK its new dowels and clamps approved by LAA. So i have to find a small person to climb down inside the tunnel after having removed the mass balance weight. I assume this is the easiest way to get at the pins, as you can see them. Obviously with the tail propped, and all the panels off for light and air. If i go about it this way. How long to get it out., and do you see any other problem, Regards Alan Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=385573#385573

Yes, don't do it alone without a mobile phone with you to call for help when you get cramp and before you pass out with pain ! What b.......drip would leave you without an access panel ? Hi All. This link posted by Nigel shows just what forces are at play, he had no chance, But a Europa is not as fast and maybe you could do some thing if you had the time, http://www.ntsb.gov/doclib/reports/2012/AAB1201.pdf You probably would feel a juddering on the stick and maybe a hammering from the tail, I have noise cancelling headsets, this is one good reason for not having one,but they are really good so i will keep using mine, However if i felt a fore and aft control shudder, i would close the throttle, hit the full fine on the prop and ease a little up to slow down as quick as possible, if possible a Mayday and get rid of the noise cancelling so i can hear the aircraft, At this point i would decide , go for the closes runway or straight ahead down, but i think i would keep it slow and flap-less all the way down and hope. Hi All I need some advice/experience on paint colours suitable for the Europa - in particular silver metallic. Is it feasable? The build manual does not mention metallic paints. William Bliss G-WUFF

Subject: electronic engine monitoring and flight instruments
Hi all again I am going to update the panel of G-WUFF. At the same time I will change the engine from 912ul to 912uls, and fit a Woodcomp VP prop with Smartcontroller. At present it has analogue gauges for electrical system, oil temp and pressure, coolant temp, temp of a single cylinder. Quite a few Europa's have undergone this type of alteration so hopefully there is some experience out there. What engine monitoring is really needed for the 912uls? I know that in depth engine monitoring is possible with electronic displays - but does it have any major advantages for a fairly well understood and reliable engine? If using electronic flight instruments, is a 4 inch screen adequate? - or is a 7 inch screen much easier to use? Are there any recent flight test reviews of the different systems? How do users find the Dynon equipment? Is it simpler to buy an integrated system of engine monitoring, flight instruments, fuel managment, GPS, etc? Or is it easy enough to purchase the individual bits and link them oneself? Thats enough for starters! Thanks William Bliss

William- If I was doing it now, it would be a Dynon Skyview. As is, I have two of the older Dynons in the plant and they are great. The reason I went this route is their reputation for reliability and ease of installation. One significant issue: Don't forget a cooling fan, maybe two of them! I have used them for support a couple of times and they are very helpful. Hi William, I would recommend against using metallic paints. I had the same thought as you, until I checked out the relative temperature of car surfaces (put my hand on the hood) at a parking lot on a sunny day: White is definitely the only "cold" colour. Silver metallic is up there among the other "warm" colours like green, blue and red. May sound strange, but it is caused by irregular particles in the paint reflecting radiation heat not only outwards (remember: angle out equals angle in). Regards, Svein LN-SKJ

Another favour I forgot to ask regarding my panel updating plans for G-WUFF I would be grateful for photo's of existing Europa panels so I can get an idea of what instruments may fit and where. Thanks again William Bliss
