Thanks Bob, this may do the trick. I'll order one. Challenge I have is to get
it to East Africa, but thats another story....
Tim, thanks, I have the new one, just need to get the old one out.
All best
Richard

Richard,
The impact tool that Bob used has been copied by the Chinese and is available at
motorcycle shops and the like. You may be able to find it locally. The Chinese
tool isn't high quality but you only need it to work once!

I am considering installation of an oil thermostat. There is supposed to be
one from Rotax=2C but I can't find price or order number on their agent's
websites. Has anyone got the details ?On the other hand=2C I see a Mocal on
e at merlinmotorsport.co.uk for 48 pounds inc. Vat. It looks the same as th
e 'Rotax' one.
Many thanks

Hi Karl
http://www.ekmpowershop2.com/ekmps/shops/conairsports/thermostasis-remote
-oi
l-thermostat-521-c.asp
This is the link to the Conair Sports site.
I fitted an oil stat 2 years ago which helped with the warm up and in
the
cruise, but the biggest benefit was the water stat I fitted this year.
The
two together give fast warm up and 80 degrees + on both water and oil
temperatures. The best bit is the temperatures stay at that until shut
down, they used to drop alarmingly as soon as the power came off for
descent.
My installation is on a Classic with a 912ul, it was a real squeeze to
get
it all to fit.

Happy New Year to all!
Karl,
The Mocal thermostat looks similar to the one I have (see attached photo).
I purchased mine from the Scandinavian Rotax agent. It is not made by Rotax
(not all their parts are, by the way!) and does not have a Rotax part
number, but it was confirmed to me that it is "recommended by Rotax".

Both the Permacool 1060 and the Thermostasis P6-H are approved by the LAA
for use with the Rotax 912,914.
Unless it has been changed since I did the documentation in 2010 the Mocal
is not.
The Permacool 1060 (the aluminium coloured one with round cross housing) is
standard Mod 12793
The Thermostasis (dark anodised, square shape) is standard mod 12808
The coolant bypass valve is also approved (SM12915)
Look on the LAA web site, LAA aircraft, Standard Mods, ROTAX ENGINE.
They are also under Standard Mods on the Club web site
http://www.theeuropaclub.org/for-builders/europa-mods-sbs/laa-standard-mods/
If you have problems I can send copies direct.

Hi John
Whats up with your GPS - If its a skymap, they get quite tempremental
when the battery is on the way out. If thats the case and you want a
hand to change it (they are a bit fiddly), let me know.
A good place to look for used GPS is AFORS - I've seen a couple of
interesting ones on there - like the one that Steve Lamb has in G-
EMIN.

Peter,
Our old GPS is the Skymap 2, which now has approx 30-40 dud lines on the screen.
Plus it is a bit difficult to read as it has a 2 colour screen.
Moving up to a 3C means we don't have to faff about with the cockpit panel fittings
etc.
John.
