My radio is not very clear on receive ,i was thinking of replacing it,but i was
in the hanger yesterday to charge the battery .When i switched everything on
the radio was crystal clear ,,so it must be the rotax 80hp causing the problem
      .
has any one got a few ideas where i should look ?

      many thanks jim davis

      Jim,

My experience is that the radio and the tacho are both sensitive to interference
if they run alongside the cables to the mag anywhere. I had just this problem
a few months ago after 'tidying up' the wiring behind my panel.

If they do have to run close - like through the bulkhead, then I suggest it is
better for them to run at 90 degrees to the mag cables to avoid/reduce inducing
current in them, or that one or the other of them is double-screened and the
      screen earthed.

That said, its also rather easy [for us amateurs?] to get poor BNC or other connector
terminations in the screened radio cables themselves as the connections
are a bit tricky to make without specialist and rather costly tools.

      I hope that helps somehow

Graeme, not in this country if you land where you said you
would. The system relies on the destination doing
something if you don't turn up. If that is an unmanned
strip then nominally you should have appointed some
responsible person to check on your arrival.

P.S. I notice that the sea temp between Dover & Calais is
just 5.4 degrees today, some two and a half degrees colder
than the minimum I recorded throughout the winter before I
was planning to fly to Australia. Shows that March really
has been cold, plus I guess that persistent NE winds blow
the colder N Sea water into the Channel. And shows that X
channel trips need serious preparation at this time of
      year!
