Hans, how much time was the plane in the hangar without engine running? I got pretty much the same issues after 3 months of heavy winter: snow and ice that prevented me to use the plane. Cracks in the radio and the 914 engine running squared due to oil in the air system. The cracks in the radio disappeared after some minutes of communications, I suspect some oxydation. The oil in the air system came from the turbo check valve that has weeped during the storage period. The oil needs to be cleaned from the airbox and the spark plugs. Also the carbs need to be checked if there is no residual oil. Hope this helps, Jacques. [/code] Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=398225#398225

There is no need to make personal attacks on any member of this group. If you don't agree with someone, simply say so. Graham is an experienced, intelligent and respected contributor - not an old maid. If because of your behaviour, you are asked to leave the group, it won't be for the first time. Your experience and advice are welcome as long as personal remarks are left out of it. Fergus Kyle C-FFGG

Subject: Propeller blade tape vs performance
    From: "jonathanmilbank" <jdmilbank@yahoo.co.uk>
The airfield where I'm temporarily obliged to operate my Classic Europa trigear has a tar runway which seems okay, but actually sheds very fine gritty particles which get sucked up by my Warp Drive propeller fitted on an Airmaster vp hub. After only a few taxiings and simulated t/o runs, the metal leading edge strips and the unprotected sections closer to the roots both show serious evidence of many tiny nicks, which will accumulate and soon make severe erosion. Please can you advise me on using prop blade tape and particularly how badly it might affect aircraft performance. I did use short lengths previously along the unprotected leading edges closer to the blade roots and it didn't make a noticeable difference to performance, but now I've stuck on 18" strips all the way to the blade tips. One opinion I've had already is that the drop-off in performance will be quite serious, but I'd really like to get a spectrum of opinions. Many thanks, Jonathan Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=398260#398260

A brief squint at the French AIP [ http://www.sia.aviation-civile.gouv.fr/html/frameset_aip_fr.htm ] reveals that those 3 are all, sadly: "9 - Douanes, Police / Customs, Police : NIL." Maybe Pontoise, LFPT? I guess it might give more options to drop in at le Toquet to clear customs first then. Might just be able to nod at customs on the way back. I seem to recall you can just overfly if the customs desk is empty going back. -------- Graeme Bird G-UMPY Mono 912S/Woodcomp 3000/3W Newby: 55 hours 1 year g(at)gdbmk.co.uk Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=398276#398276
