Hi Alan
the normal ariel is a plastic sqaure box about the size of a cigarette box,
but on mine
i fitted a slightly smaller unit with a built in amplifier,

Hello Ivor./Bob.
Hope you are still doing those long flight,
I have spoken the sky force at Chichester today, they are sending me out a
stick on cheap aerial to test with.
Its all working but states on the GPS page acquiring but this stay the same for
an hour, so its no receiving a signal, on the aerial state it says 4Ma.

Hello ALL
Well its less than a year ago I had this problem and ended up changing one of the
ignition coils and spending around 300 for parts.
All I remember it was a sod of a job and I did not want to do it.
I use to have a rotary mag/start switch but now have independent switching so I
can start on L,R,or Both.
I have marked my left system Red, and my Right system Green
but really did not mark enough of this sodding system.
So can any one answer or check my progress.
Starting the reverse way round. just me I find it easier doing things backwards.
Top row of plugs (green), go to (2)ignition coils (green), then to the top module
(green), then to my RIGHT Mag switch (green)
This is called ignition system A.
Bottom row of plugs, (Red) yes you've got it (red/port/LEFT)Stb RIGHT is
Green so much for the colour coding.
Go to the (2) ignition coils (Red) then to the modules (Red) then to the
LEFT mag switch (Red)
This is ignition system B.
Now having labelled it all up is it correctly ?? or does B do the top plugs,?
I could pull of all the red top leads and select L and try to start and if it does
not start I have it correct, but been told not a good idea as may damage modules.

I have just converted my Classic with 912UL 80hp and Airmaster 332vp prop from
mono to tri. I'm completely satisfied and delighted with the results and particularly
I must thank Neville Eyre for his excellent work.
For your interest, my conversion has bare undercarriage legs and wheels, no spats
(pants) or fairings intended, utilises the original combined flap/undercarriage
lever to operate the flaps without needing an electric motor and has finger
brakes.
This has all resulted in a net empty weight gain of 43 lbs (about 20 kg) to 861
lbs and the cruise speed has reduced by 8 knots from 120 to 112 at the identical
power setting.
The most important reduction for me has been the reduction in stress when landing
the mono in a stiff crosswind. I got away without groundlooping for 15 years
and now I'm ready for the quiet life.

Jonathan,
Get the wheel paints and gear leg covers and if you want to take it
further make leg end fairings and you'll get all the speed back except 2
KTS. Then on the other hand maybe the speed isn't important and thats
fine to. Gold Rush is an XS tri with the new 912ULS, sensenich ground
adjustable prop and at 7K ft and 5400 RPM's it does 130KTS every time.

Hi Alan,
If it's all wired up and configured as per the installation manual (section 19.4.4
page 116):
Ignition Module/Circuit A controls the top plugs of 1 & 2 and the bottom plugs
of 3 & 4
Ignition Module/Circuit B controls the bottom plug of 1 & 2 and the top plugs of
3 & 4
There's probably a good reason for this arrangement, but if someone informed me
of said reason, I don't remember it.

Gentlemen,
When you quote the speed of your aircraft, please clarify if you are talking IAS,
CAS or TAS.
The 914 Mono I am now flying has the pitot and static vents in their original positions.
i.e. pitot forward of the spar and static holes on the side of the fuselage.
I have always suspected the IAS to be under reading and flying in formation with
a Virus Motor Glider at different speeds confirmed this was so albeit I equally
suspect the ASI on the Virus is optimistic to some extent.
In flight at or close to AUW with Warp Drive square blade prop, at 9500 ft, 5000
RPM and 29" MAP, 20 LPH fuel burn, I am getting 118-120 IAS which is around
135kts TAS.
I am interested to know how these figures compare with others please.

FWIW, my XS Trigear conversion with 914, Airmaster 332 straight blades, has been
doing 110 kts indicated. This is a bit lower than the 114 kts indicated GPS
speed. This is at 5000 RPM, 26.5" MP & 4.5 GPH (17 LPH) with no fairings at
all.
Last week I put the wheel pants on and that same power/fuel setting produced 115
kts indicated (120 kts GPS speed).
I'm working on the gear leg fairings this week. I'll let you know what it does
when they are on and I have a chance to fly it.
Eventually, the rest of the speed kit (flap hinge fairings) will go on and we'll
see how that helps.

What you show for the ignition modules is correct for the 912, however the 914
is wired differently. The top module fires the top plugs and the bottom module
the bottom plugs.
I went through this last year and had to replace the top module, only two of the
top plugs failed on mine module so through a process of pulling wires on plugs
I was able to find it. I sent the suspect module in for testing and it confirmed
what I found. Switching the the two modules to see if the problem moves
is also a method to discover the issue.
Alan, hope you are able to isolate your issue, this stuff can drive one nuts!

That diagram is for the 912 , don't know why it's in that manual unless the
re is a footnote
Somewhere. I do know that my 914 top module, top plugs, bottom module, botto
m plugs.
Guess we need a rotax guy to pipe in on this. Maybe can explain whats what!
