Why not fit Nev's new engine frame as it is lighter and you do not need the r
ing mount. It is also cheaper too

Yes. I have an unused one surplus to requirements and in pristine
condition. I'm based in the UK.
Contact me off-list if you're interested.

Hello, wondering if any UK builders on the forum would consider part-exchanging
their kit (all levels of completion considered) for my flying and in-permit 912S
Trigear?
Reason: Whilst I'm enjoying owning and flying, i'm quite keen to build (again).
The reg is G-TAGR, there's also an ad on AFORS with more detail/pics.

Subject: | Europa Club Bash - This Weekend |
Just a reminder to our members that the Europa Club will be holding its
2013 Annual General Meeting and general "Good-time-bash" this Saturday
at Popham airfield (EGHP - http://ukga.com/airfield/popham) and we will
be open for business from late Friday afternoon through to Sunday - you
are all cordially invited.
We will have two large marquees so that anyone wishing to stay will have
somewhere sheltered to stay over Friday and Saturday Night.
Popham has a toilet block with washing facilities (but sadly now showers).
To encourage you to come, the club will be providing a barbeque midday
Saturday. On offer; ground mince burgers (with not a trace of horse),
pork steaks, spicy chicken and beefsteaks. All we ask is that to bring
along a pudding.
On Saturday evening, to encourage you to stay over and make a party out
of the event, our resident Chinese chef, Wun Hung-Lo will be providing
what I think he said was "Stirred Fly wiv Lice". I'm not sure what that
is but I have seen large piles of Dim Sum and chicken with black bean in
his 'fridge.
We have arranged for a couple of Pins of real ale but would invite you
all to "bring a bottle" We have disposable glasses, but if you prefer to
drink with style, please bring along your favourite tankard or wine glass.
If anyone is musical, please bring along an instrument to provide some
entertainment. I am waiting to see someone arrive with a double bass in
a Europa.
Sunday morning we will be providing bacon and eggs with fresh coffee,
and then, much as we love you all, you'll have to shove off, as we'll
need to get the marquees down!
If any of the old Yorkshire "Europa Aviation" team is out there and
listening, we would love to see you -- Ivan, Andy, Nev, Roger or John.
(Remember lads; the food is free ;-).

Subject: | Fuel tank sensor opening problem |
Dear friends,
In my fuel tank I have cut two small openings for fuel sensors. Serious
fuel leaks started to develop, so I have removed the sensors to have a look.
What I discovered is that in the area around the cut outs the tank wall
has become swollen and seriously distorted.
I remember some discussion on this forum about the treatment the fuel
tank received, that this treatment was only on the surface and once you
cut a hole in the tank the fuel can reach the unprotected material. I
tank mogas and the ethanol in it doesn't help either.
The question is now, what should I do? Is there any way to rescue the
affected material, or should I cut it out?
If I cut out the area, I have a new cut and will face the same problem
but on a larger scale, unless there is some way to treat the newly cut
opening. If I make a new cut, how can I prevent it from happening again?
Of course, replacement of the fuel tank is something I want to avoid at
all costs (and even then, I want to have fuel sensors in the new tank so
I will have to deal with the same problem anyway).
Is there any quick fix possible? This is the flying saison and I don't
want to spoil it if there is a way to postpone a more long lasting
repair until the winter.
Thanks in advance for some great ideas,
Frans

Hi Frans=2C
Making a larger opening in the tank is a very good idea anyway for future i
nspections. My tank was never treated but is till in very good nick. Howeve
r=2C the back wall had buckled inwards=2C even when it was still almost new
. I have now installed internal braces to hold it in shape. For your proble
m I can only suggest what I would do: make the larger opening=2C large enou
gh so that your arm can go in=2C treat the affected area with Perma Seal fu
el tank sealer=2C and close it again with your sensors in place. I made a g
asket out of fuel resistant 3mm rubber.

So, we made it to Scotland - 'Land of the Brave', though just a day trip yesterday.
Luton > York -> Womble -> Sunderland, Newcastle, landed Escott (2:10)
Ecsott - Berwick -> right over Edinburgh centre , landed and refuelled Cumbernauld
(great place - landed with 11 ltrs),
Up to loch Lomon, north of Glasgow zone over to Bute, down the coast over Prestwick,
over boarders, solway firth, clear lake district landed at CARK, added 20ltrs
Warton, Manchester (disappointed couldn't get permission through zone - took low
level corridor), Stoke and home.
6.5hrs 675 nm, 141 litres -fantastic scenery still buzzin!

Subject: | Exhaust Fouling the Cowling |
I am in the process of fitting the cowling to my 914-equipped XS. The number 1
exhaust pipe seems to be touching the cowling, and may even be pushing it forward.
I am sure that I am not the first person to hit this issue. My current
thought is to cut the cowling away from where the exhaust pipe is touching it,
to fair a blister into the cowl, then wrap the exhaust pipe. In addition the
number 1 EGT port is almost touching the cowl.
It may be that the exact engine position relative to the cowl varies slightly with
how the engine frame is bolted to the airframe, but the tolerances here do
seem very tight.
I would appreciate hearing what everyone else has done if they hit the same problem.
Thanks.

Jerry,
Exactly my experience. Had to cut and reform that part of the cowling and
even then had to add reflective heat resistant tape to the inside of the
cowling to save the exhaust pipe burning through. You don't notice the
larger port bulge from the outside unless you know what you are looking for.

Hi Jerry,
Sounds about usual, the EGT probe position can be sorted by moving the bush
in the header, Dave, the welder at Europa has a jig to reposition / re wel
d, talk to Karen.
Easiest way to get additional clearance between the headers and the cowl, i
s to cut the cowl around the top of the ''eyeball'' holes, and cut down the
side of the fairing to allow the eyeball to be pulled [ hinged ] forward.
re glass with 4 plies of Bid, and use high temp / fire retardant polyester
resin.
Ally foil skinned glass cloth material should be used to keep the heat off
the cowl. Even with increased gaps, it will still cook and burn the paint o
ff if you try a WOT ground run for more than a couple of minutes.
Get the cowl as far forward as you can, a 1/8'' gap from the front face to
the back of the spinner is JUST enough.
Cheers,
Nev

Hi Europa Family,
I would like to know more about Airplast Propeller.
The only information, which I can find within the web is only in French and
without contacts.
Are there information in English available and who is the person which I
could contact for repair and/or purchase reasons?
Many thanks for help.
