Kevin. I've used everything from the "el cheapo" to the most expensive
Michelins. They all last about the same, as far as tread wear is concerned.
I have the 6 ply Air Tracs on, now and they are doing fine...

Hi Guys,
After many years we have decided to "unsubscribe" from the Europa forum as
my mailbox is being deluged with the numerous posts that are flying around.
The forum is certainly as active as I have ever seen it - We seem to spend
our days deleting emails to keep our mailbox tidy.
We're not going away (or selling the Europa) but thought it best to browse
the forum online instead.
This announcement is just in case there is the odd "private message" that
gets sent here instead. We made the mistake of pm'ing here by accident only
a week ago (apologies to Goff) - comes with old age!
Most who know us will have these but if you need to contact us our details
are below.

It rolls easy enough on concrete but it is both the outside edges of the tyr

Subject: | Tyres for tri gear |
Hi! Graham/all
Yes, the =9Ctoe in=9D issue is the key to most wear . I can
vouch for mine to be precise BUT with no wings fitted, probably no
engine fitted, certainly no fuel on board and the aircraft fuselage
supported on slings from above, no pilot or passenger . So how in
God=99s name is the manual set up defined to be correct ? Mine is
certainly toed in too much, in that my winch to pull the aircraft
backwards up the trailer ramps is seriously stressed . I have
recommended numerous builders when at the stage of setting theirs to
reduce the toe in and so allow for real weighted circumstances. I even
toyed with an idea of making the main gear legs adjustable to rotate on
like a vernier type fitting , but ran out of motivation and funds.
I believe that I have Condor which are quite a square profile but the
landing touch down is always on the outside of the tyres needing them
changed round on half life.
If only the legs could be heated =9Ccherry red=9D and
twisted to reduce what I have it would be so easy
............Don=99t dare even go there!!
Regards
To all

Another strategy is for all Europa-List emails to be directed to a "Europa-List
Mailbox"...it certainly works for me...allows me to peruse when I choose, and
doesn't clutter my primary email stream...

=?windows-1252?Q?Torque_Values_depending_on_type_of_Nuts?
Tony
These torque values are presumably from the FAA Advisory Circular, which
can be found in this document, plus a wealth of other information:
http://www.faa.gov/regulations_policies/advisory_circulars/index.cfm/go/document.information/documentid/99861.
The torque values are listed in chapter 7.
However these numbers are for fastening metal parts. For composites I would
be reluctant to apply the maximum recommended torque. I believe the maximum
torque is a function of the compressive strength of the parts being
fastened and the tensile strength of the bolt itself. There was a document
from Cirrus which had lower numbers for AN bolts on composites, but I can't
seem to find it now. So far I've been tightening the bolts based on how
much compression I feel after the parts become clamped.I know this is not
very scientific.
On the other hand, I am a bit surprised that your AN3 bolt broke during
normal torqing. Is it possible that the bolt bottomed out at the end of the
threaded portion? In that case I can see how that can break at the joint
between the shank and the threads.. In fact, I had to replace several AN
bolts called out in the Europa manual with shorter lengths because they
were bottoming out before clamping the parts.

Hi Group
Quick note on breaking AN bolts, if the surface the nut is contacting is
not perpendicular to the shank of the bolt, it will load sideways and
quite easily break. For instance on my tiebar, and flap drive holes I did
a poor job of drilling at 90 degrees to the surface. I am sure if I
tightened the hardware to maximum rated spec they would break. I used
these to compensate for my sins

Note you can get #10 with a maximum correction of 4 degrees and also 5
degrees, the 5 degree is larger. I think I only used the 5 degree on 1 of
my tiebar bolts, it needed just a slight bit more ability to correct so I
Reduxed with Flox and let set before full tightening.

Gidday,
There was a question regarding electric flaps with pre-positioning. Here is what
I am using.
http://www.concentricintl.com/products/electrical-control/accessories/linear-actuator-controller-one-actuator-12-vdc-6/
In combination with their linear actuators, I think its the perfect setup for the
Europa. The quality is excellent and the value tremendous.
Hope this helps.

Tony,
That looks interesting. Not exactly what I had in mind, but it might do.

I am new to the Europa world and would like to join the Europa club but I'm unable
to access the theeuropaclub.org web site. I've tried from a number of computers
over a period of time but just get the message "page unavailable"
Has the site moved?
Many thanks

Will,
There is a pretty good discussion of Europa cooling on Bud Yerly's website.
