Hey, Sensai FK.....you can't climb down from my pedestal that easily! I could never have made those complex curves as diligently. I struggled to simply glue them together =F0=9F=98=9C Tony R Sent from my iPad > On 21 Feb 2014, at 9:33 am, Fred Klein <fklein@orcasonline.com> wrote: > > Tony & Greg...I can't resist chiming in here...I'm delighted to see Tony's innovative approach to installing these wing root fairings so that they can be detachable in a way which would address the question as to whether or no t any in-flight efficiencies are gained w/ their use...if I'd had more of my wits about me, I would have, and perhaps should have, done so on my ship... In interest of data-gathering (for me), it would need to be removable t o allow for testing flight characteristics of the aircraft in multiple confi gurations, including the original fairing (also for backward compatibility f or the other wings available). That would be a good way to see how it perfor ms. Because of this, it seems that keeping it whole (no cutting) might be t he best course of action. It's nice to know that someone else is considering the same. If you fly before me, you would have the best information availab le about how the un-chopped fairing will affect flight performance. :-) I a m no aerodynamicist, but do agree with your interpretation below. Any effect s of the fairing hanging in the breeze with the flaps deployed can be tested carefully at altitude. Otherwise, it has been tested by a number of others i n the flaps-up position and is intended to be less draggy in that state. >> >> I don't think (and this is pure conjecture) the exposed surface area i s large enough to do anything in the negative way, especially since its in c ompetition with a very large flap that is doing most of the wind directing. >> >> BTW: I look forward to obtaining fairing attachment ideas (i.e. nutplates ?) from you after you've had time to percolate the project. >> >> Regards, >> Greg >> >> From: owner-europa-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-europa-list-se rver@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Tony Renshaw >> Sent: Saturday, February 15, 2014 1:31 AM >> To: europa-list@matronics.com; davidjoyce@doctors.org.uk >> Subject: Re: Europa-List: FK fairings...............input requested. >> >> Thanks David, >> >> We=99ll see how these FK fairings work out. I am not sure how the S pitfire flap articulates, but I suspect it will be the same as these fairing s i.e. the flap retracts into the fairing such that it creates a small clams hell at the root end of the flap when it is extended. The drag I mention is w ith them deployed, and in combination with the lift created from the flap ou tboard of this shadowed part, would mean that the flap would have a lesser i mpact than a completely clean flap, but not by much. Any increase in drag is better at the root of the wing, so if lift is killed here, it shouldn =99t matter that much. Thats my view sofar, and I have made them removable s o that if I am not happy with the collective wisdom to strap them on for the first flight, I won=99t. I can fly it clean to start with, which woul d be the wisest and then extend the flaps and check out the flight character istics at altitude. Like I said, I don=99t expect anything untoward, b ut I don=99t actually know so am keen for the input. >> Also, I have extended my wing closeouts so I don=99t have any gap m ore than 3 mm between the side of the fuse and the wings, without fairings. S o, if I don=99t like the flight characteristics of these fairings I ca n remove them, on the airfield, and go fly without any fairings aft of the s par on the top of the wing. It looks good the way it is without fairings, an d if it wasn=99t for the fact that there is interference drag in that a rea, what I have underneath the fairing is gross overkill for a good outcome . Don=99t ask me why I did it, to cover it up with a fairing, but hey, you get carried away from time to time, or I do. >> Regards >> Tony Renshaw >> >> >> >> >> href="http://www.matronics.com/Navigator?Europa-List">http://www.matron ics.com/Navigator?Europa-List >> href="http://forums.matronics.com/">http://forums.matronics.com >> href="http://www.matronics.com/contribution">http://www.matronics.com/c ontribution >> > > > 3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3 D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D 3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3 D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D 3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3 D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D 3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3 D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D >

Fred, Ah, no worries. One of us will get the numbers on your creative master-piece sooner or later.. _____ Tony & Greg...I can't resist chiming in here...I'm delighted to see Tony's innovative approach to installing these wing root fairings so that they can be detachable in a way which would address the question as to whether or not any in-flight efficiencies are gained w/ their use...if I'd had more of my wits about me, I would have, and perhaps should have, done so on my ship...Fred

Hi Group Those who have a Rotax 91X know things aren't cheap. Here's a 26 amp Gen2 for $137.50 per amp: http://sportair.aero/12-epapower/epapower/ Ron Parigoris BTW if you are a real die hard you can put one on the 130 HP 915 for $57,250 Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=419120#419120

    Subject: Mono weight
Guys...I am too thrilled to keep quiet... After an extended build time w/ numerous non-standard aspects to Mono #A194...and ambiguous results at attempts to weigh her w/ multiple bathroom scales (hey...I know...a big no no, but I had to try)...I find my overall empty weight at what for me is the astounding figure of 814.8 pounds using a proper aircraft scale...that would be 737# on the main wheel, and 77.8# on the tail w/ fore and aft axis dead level, wing tips balanced / feather-light, and w/ battery positioned abreast of the mass balance arm tower back in the tailcone. A few caveats: this is a weight w/o fluids in the engine, unusable fuel, an ELT, finish paint, tools, spares, etc. and a second PC680 battery which I want to carry w/ my totally electrically dependent engine. Notwithstanding my heavy engine (a 140 hp MPEFI variant of the Sube EA81), I've tried to build light, and presently have a GA prop due concerns about overall weight and C of G. I wanted a preliminary W & B in order to locate and run power to my battery(ies)...my high tolerance for ambiguity had simply reached its limit... onward and upward, Fred
