Subject: | Coaming Extension |
Gidday,
I have just extended the coaming over my sub panel, a similar distance
that the original one extended over the primary, and then I extended the
primary to match. So, I have a coaming made out of a bunch of foam
layers, all shaped up and ready to deal with. I=92d like to ask before I
glass it over, whether there is any opinion of how far extended the
coaming should be over the primary panel? Mine now is 4 1/2=94 or 110
mm, and it appears that it will work well. Still, others may disagree,
so this is the time to ask.
Thanks, in hope and anticipation.
Regards
Tony Renshaw
P.S. It is going to be trimmed up a little more, but the 5 minute epoxy
is challenging my sanding skills. I might use polyester car bog, my
favourite contouring product ontop of the foam, and then sand it perfect
before 2 plies of BID. Don=92t worry, my BID will lock it in ontop of
the coaming and down onto the top of the primary and sub panels.

Subject: | Rotax - New Oil Filter removal tool |
I'm just about to start the first permit renewal on my aircraft and thought I would
get some stuff together to help things along. First up was to buy one of
those tools for removing the oil filter. 25 and nice new tool arrives in the post
a few days later. Take out of packaging and check against shiny new filter
- it doesn't fit. Check with the aircraft and it fits that one OK. Research shows
that Rotax have recently changed the filter design - Doh!!!
The new filter looked a bit familiar to me and the old gray cells kicked in to
remind me that I have a filter removal tool for the oil filter on my BMW K100
motorbike. I dug it out and hey presto BMW tool fits new Rotax oil filter. Not
only this, I checked the fit on the aircraft and it will work a treat (Rotax
914 uls, cant vouch for the others).
The tool is available from Moto-Bins here http://www.motobins.co.uk/bmw-parts.php?model=K+Series part number 99200 if anyone wants one.

Hi Bruno,
Would you happen to know how Walter Binder achieved putting fuel tanks
in
the wings ? In particular did he substitute the Blue for something
impervious to fuel ?

Hi Phil,
Walter Binders plane D-EPWB is a Classic Monowheel Kit 149 with Wing
Fuel
Tanks, elect. Retractable Outrigger Legs and a Tail Wheel with a
mounting
plate on top for the tow clutch. I am not quite sure if this was from an
old
Cessna Taildragger or a Husky.
He is using his own landing strip for towing the smaller glider he is
manufacturing.
He also manufactures the EB 28 /29. Some years ago he had to use a
parachute
by test flying.

Hi William
I didn't know that tool existed (thanks Graham), but found it on ACS site:

Be sure to check out the Video tab!

William,
I believe Graham was talking about this:
http://www.aircraftspruce.com/pages/to/safetywiretools/clamptitetool.php
I have one and it works surprisingly well where you have enough room to
maneuver the tool.
The resulting clamp looks like this=94
This is a double wrap. It can also be done as a single wrap.
