Not a bad idea.
In my experience it is not practical. Brakes take up a bit of room. I rem
ove the metal firewall and make a new one behind the nose gear leg and clos
e the area and add an access panel=2C as has been posted before. I also ad
d my own park brake valve setup seen at sun 'n fun. This leaves little spac
e. The CG is a bit far forward with fuel forward of your knees also. In a
runway departure the nose gear leg has sheared the bolts and entered into
the well some six inches so that makes me less than keen on a tank there.
On a side note:
Once my medical experiment is over=2C I am going to install an 8 gallon tan
k above the gear wells right against the tank bulkhead in 12AY. It will be
aluminum=2C use a pump=2C a proper vent=2C and fill through a proper cap m
oulded into the starboard door frame.
My kids are moving just out of range. But my bladder may not be large enou
gh to warrant the tank. But I'll build it anyway. It measures about 6" x
8" x 36" nominally. Volume is about 1 cubic foot. (I got the idea from a
uto racing tanks with foam and bladders for safety. They are a bit heavy b
ut safe for inside the cockpit.) It's anchored to the ply braces so it won
't go anywhere.
It will take up baggage room.
Jerry Hope thought of a belly slipper tank. Right on the CG. We just didn
't have time.

Now my question: Is it possible and/or already done=2C using the empty spac

Have a nice time and safe flights.

I have check the wiring ....... all connections...... I even have a radio
on loan from LX Avionice and that does the same ????? I'm now thinking It could
be my Dave Clark H10-13 head set, I have had a very short flight today 3 circuits,
just to try with a different head set and all seemed OK but I will know
better on a longer flight. The Radio is a funweak ATR 833 Have anyone ever

Richard - can you describe the observed symptoms of this "lock up"? And is it cleared
by powering off and on again?
I have the same radio but have not flown it yet.

"Richard, I seem to recall a similar problem when G-OGAN was being checked out

The problem was the jack plug sockets in the roof microphone and speaker jacks
just touched causing a short,so make sure that there is enough space between the

Andy, I have checked the mic and head set sockets and all seem well. This is a
strange one !!! As nothing stands out to be the problem!!!!!!

Richard,
If the radio has an embedded microprocessor it may be a product defect. I
have had experience where something will work fine in a metal or C/F
aircraft but not in a fiberglass aircraft. The reason is that there is no
attenuation of RF in the fiberglass structure and it finds its way into the
device, usually through the power feed. A well designed product should not
have this issue, however you could try adding some RF filtering on the
power, mic, headphone and ppt lines.

What do you call a reasonable price.
I understand these things cost around 87,000 to build in kit parts and engine and
prop and nav aids.
So what is a reasonable price, ?????
I paid 36k for mine and have spent another 2k on it.
so for me its 38k
is that reasonable.

I would hope that in defining =93reasonable=94, other factors come into
play such as:
- reasonable performance numbers
- reasonable in-flight and on-ground handling
- reasonable fit and finish,
- reasonable level of equipment and avionics,
- reasonable level of completion,
i.e., =93reasonable=94 and not =93exceptional=94
=85in short, I would hope that someone looking for a Europa at a
=93reasonable price=94 would factor into his/her thinking the wide range
of outcomes in this realm of amateur-built aircraft and recognize that
many have exceptional qualities and warrant exceptional asking prices=85

Subject: | Re: odd radio problem |
One possibility is supply voltage spikes. Some embedded
microcontroller chips will freeze if the supply voltage goes outside
the spec even for a brief moment. I had that happen recently. The
spike was so brief that it did not register on the voltmeter.
Connecting a large capacitor across the power wires solved that
problem. You might want to give that a try.
