Has anyone done this in UK, and if so, how did you achieve it? The main lengths of my cables (back to the Graham Singleton bellcrank on the rear bulkhead) are made up and installed in the bonded-on fairleads so I'd have to break something to take them out. Applying 550 lbs tension in-situ without over-stressing anything else could be tricky. To apply the pull, I am sure that in the past I've seen lever-operated hand winches advertised which can (eg) pull out a tree stump but I can't find anything like that now. Nor can I find spring balances that would read up to about 600 lb for measuring the tension. Any advice welcome! in friendship Rowland | Rowland Carson ... that's Rowland with a 'w' ... | http://www.rowlandcarson.org.uk | Skype, Twitter: rowland_carson Facebook: Rowland Carson | pictures: http://picasaweb.google.com/rowlandcarson ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 10:51:06 AM PST US Subject: Re: Europa-List: rudder cable pull test From: Rowland Carson On 21 Apr 2014, at 17:31, Rowland Carson wrote: > Applying 550 lbs tension In response to an off-forum reply direct to me, the number comes from the breaking strain of the cable (920 lbs) and the 60% of ultimate load called up in AC43.13-1B: "7-146. If I can't find any other UK Europa builder who has done this test, my next port of call will be LAA Engineering to see if they can offer some suggestions to my inspector. in friendship Rowland | Rowland Carson ... that's Rowland with a 'w' ... | http://www.rowlandcarson.org.uk | Skype, Twitter: rowland_carson Facebook: Rowland Carson | pictures: http://picasaweb.google.com/rowlandcarson ________________________________ Message 4 _____________________________________ Time: 01:28:18 PM PST US From: "UVTREITH" Subject: AW: Europa-List: rubber anti-vibration mounts MT04 Hi Max, Please check Conrad (link below). I subsequently had Kevin fit both a water and oil stat to G-IPOD, both of which greatly improved the cold weather operation of the aircraft. I am due a carb check soon and will be asking Kevin to do that a general inspection/service and also cast an eye over the entire installation for the permit renewal. -------- John Wighton Europa XS trigear G-IPOD Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=422213#422213 ________________________________ Message 6 _____________________________________ Time: 07:00:14 PM PST US Subject: Re: Europa-List: rudder cable pull test From: Tony Renshaw Hi Rowland, Can I ask, is the inspector interested in your swaging, because if it meets the swage test, is not asymmetrically pulled up or too stressed over the thimbles, what actually is he after? If he wants proof that the supporting structures are strong enough, such as the rear bulkhead that supports the GS mod, is he interested whether it can withstand the 60 % overload of the designed cable? Anyone able to calculate the aerodynamic load at VMax rudder control deflection..(used to know that), and the max load on the pedal, based on mechanical advantages etc.? Leg pressure must be under 100 lbs, which I base on large aircraft being a max of 80 lbs as I recall, so it all seems a bit much to expect. To me, its academic if the swaging is appropriate, the structure of the bulkheads is well made, and the correct sized cable is used. Is he within his power to expect such things? Maybe time to change inspectors if you can ;-) Regards Tony Renshaw On 22 Apr 2014, at 3:49 am, Rowland Carson wrote: > > On 21 Apr 2014, at 17:31, Rowland Carson wrote: > >> Applying 550 lbs tension > > In response to an off-forum reply direct to me, the number comes from the breaking strain of the cable (920 lbs) and the 60% of ultimate load called up in AC43.13-1B: > > "7-146.
