I run a Funkwork ATR8.33 OLED model for a year. No problem reading the
display from my perspective but it=99s not the yellow version.
Pete, interested to hear how you found, and solved the interference from
the Dynon please.

I have a Funkwerk supplied by Airworld [UK] Ltd works very well. I noted
that a suggestion was made to carry a hand held radio with 8.33 Mhz
separation, I did this way back when 760 set were required to replace
720s [God I=98m getting old] however I found that it was not
accepted in German air space. I used it once in anger in France after
suspected radio failure-what a palaver . It turned out that the aircraft
radios were fine , my wife=99s head set had been uncomfortable so
we had swopped, I learnt a lesson there!

Anyone got any recommendations or otherwise for an 8.33 Mhz radio to fit
a 2.25in hole and replace a microair?
I have spotted Trig, Dittel, MGL, Becker, Funkwerk so far.

I don't have a trig radio yet but I do have a trig transponder. There suppor
t is fantastic I blew the transponder up when I fitted it (don't ask but com
pletely my fault). Trig replaced it free of charge even though they were abl
e to say exactly what I had done to it.
I will be buying the Trig radio.
I have a VOR and ILS connected to my current radio and fear I will have to l
eave it in unless anyone knows of a 8.33 radio which will do the same and no
t leave me destitute.
Thanks

Kevin, I think your solution is a good one. I too had a
nav/com with twin VOR and ILS. Fun to play with but not
much practical use until EASA allow IFR in permit aircraft
or all your GPSs pack up and you get caught in IFR way
from anywhere (unlikely unless you plan to fly to Oz -
when it has happened to nearly all going through the
tropical zone). Mine was an SL30, whose direct Garmin
replacement turns out to be around 1cm fatter. This led me
to totally redesigning and rewiring most of my panel, an
ongoing process that has taken longer than the original
panel fit! With wisdom of hindsight it would probably have
been smarter to keep the SL30 for Nav & back up com and
use a Trig for standard com. I have incidentally got a
spare SL30 in perfect working order that I would be happy
to part with to a good home for a modest donation to my
favourite charity. Regards, David Joyce, GXSDJ

You can do your training / flight test for your IMC in a permit.
I would prefer to be in court for doing IFR in a permit plane than dead :-)
Yes I know you should never get in that situation but......,
And fingers crossed IFR in a permit is on the horizon. Well within my lifetime
maybe.

permit aircraft or all your GPSs pack up and you get caught in IFR way from anywhere
(unlikely unless you plan to fly to Oz - when it has happened to nearly
all going through the tropical zone). Mine was an SL30, whose direct Garmin replacement
turns out to be around 1cm fatter. This led me to totally redesigning
and rewiring most of my panel, an ongoing process that has taken longer than
the original panel fit! With wisdom of hindsight it would probably have been
smarter to keep the SL30 for Nav & back up com and use a Trig for standard com.
I have incidentally got a spare SL30 in perfect working order that I would
be happy to part with to a good home for a modest donation to my favourite charity.

Kevin, Yes I am aware of that and would have done it if
the syllabus fitted a bit better with the practicalities
of how I would fly mine if unavoidably caught in IMC. As
it is I just practice key elements when occasion arises

Strikes me as unlikely to be useful.
Low voltage is the result of either:
- an open circuit in the regulator; the battery takes over
automatically, or:
- (less likely) a short in the regulator - the battery will make the
fuse in the B-lead pop; the battery takes over automatically.
The device would take the role of the fuse I suppose.
And you still need overvoltage detection and relay.
Maybe you should become a member of the Aeroelectric list of Bob Nuckols
(also a Matronics list) and ask him what he thinks.
He is loves this stuff and is knowledgeable and pretty eloquent.

Hi! Tony,
I haven't any experience about the device you mention but I had an
overvoltage trip system Called a "Crowbar" system by Bob Nuckolls of
Aeroelectric Systems. It was wired into the Jabiru wireing system I had with
the original engine on G-PTAG.
When I replaced that engine with the 914 I simply wired it in the same way.
For my money (and it was of minimal cost from Bob Nuckols) you would be
better protected from a runaway voltage rather than an under voltage.
Having said that I have never had it trip out yet. But I did find the multi
spade connections burnt to the regulator once. It is imperative that they
are maintained positive connections I've had no further problems but I have
the Schick regulator which replaced the standard issue Ducati. ( I'm
touching wood !)
Regards
Bob Harrison G-PTAG

Hi All,
I know this has been discussed before on the forum. I have looked til I bleary
eyed and can't find the answer I'm looking for.
When I key the mike I have started getting a loud static noise or feedback that
wasn't there before. I have near radio silence of incoming traffic until I am
in the pattern and then it's scratchy. It sounds ok with the engine off but I
don't know how far I'm transmitting or receiving on the ground. I am running
an ICOM A200 and Bob Archer antenna. The antenna is mounted on the fuselage wall
behind the D panel port side. It has always performed well until recently but
can't pin down what has changed. I have checked the security of all the grounds
on and forward of the firewall, as far as I can tell. I was thinking it is
time to pull the instrument panel but got to thinking about these torroids or
suppressors. Can I just string some of these onto the RG58 coax back near the
antenna and maybe help matters?
I'd really appreciate any pointers to look at specifically. I have a Sigtronics
intercom with the music switcher also.
Can the presence of an IPAD communicating with a Stratus ADSB cause this?
Most of what I found on the forum dealt with the transmitter affecting other equipment.
This is not the case. I am hearing huge noise when I key the mike and
can't here others calling me until I'm very near, like in the landing pattern.
I can also hear the electric gyros in the headsets a little but that has always
been there but not too noticeable, a little pop from the strobes faintly,
but I can live with that. I just need to kill the giant, not the little noises
necessarily. I'd like to figure out what change took place.
Thanks,
Troy Maynor
