      Hi Roland,

I see that no one is sticking his neck out on this one!!

Personally I would not worry about a couple of % of Avgas.

      Good morning Barry,

thanks for sharing your personal opinion since in fact this was what I'm looking
for as the Rotax releases are clear in stating no full synthetic oil with Avgas
(and of course you won't get any other statement from them). But apparently
there is no one using full synth with even very little Avgas. I didn't decide
yet, which oil to use next. Maybe semi synthetic until UL 91 or another lead
free Avgas is available on a broad level.

I modified my cooling system, so that I hopefully won't see oil temps beyond 120C
too often sometime in the future (when I'm finally flying again).

      Regards
      Roland

      Hi Family,

In deed it is very sad.

The Owner and Co-Pilot was Manfred Jann. His friend and Pilot, who also
      had
made the first flight Peter Vajen died by this accident. Manfred is
      heavily
injured and in hospital in a still critical situation.

This was the third flight with the Monowheel Classic. More information
      about
this maybe later, when the BFU had got the result out of their
      investigations.

I also found this one, although it's no official Rotax document.

      http://www.rotaxservice.com/rotax_tips/rotax_feed4.htm

"Users running MOSTLY unleaded fuel can opt for full-synthetic or semi-synthetic

....still searching for infos on that in the www...

      Roland,

I use Shell AX7 (semi synthetic) and worry more about my oil temps!!
I always use Avgas if the ambient temps are likely to be (30deg C or +) or (0deg
      C or -). Otherwise super.

This is the oil developed by Shell & Rotax for use in Rotax 4-cycle engines. It's
semi-synthetic so it can be used with both MoGas & AvGas.

If you can get it, why use anything else?

Not exactly. There is a list of recommended oil brands and types. It isn't just
any 4-cycle motorcycle oil. It has to be non-foaming, with the correct gear
      lube properties, etc.

AeroShell Sport Plus 4 is made specifically for the Rotax 9xx engines and is the
primary, #1, top-of-the-list oil recommendation. Why not use it?

One reason could be : because it=92s the most expensive on the French
      market.
I used it initially but changed for Yacco AVX 500 4T which is 15% less
expensive and also highly recommended by Ratox.

IMHO the recommended Shell M0-Cycle oil doesn=99t accommodate the
extreme cam lobe pressures on the prop- strike cams in front of the
gearbox evidenced by a unsatisfactory magnetic plug.

I am testing the use of a tin of Halfords extreme Pressure STP oil per
oil change, but heat it and mix it well before you put it in the engine.
I have about 150 hours now with no cam erosion and clean magnetic plug
      since commencing this procedure.

      Regards
