Stephan, Aircraft all prepared for departure on Wednesday but was not happy with weather in channel as I planned a stop at Calais or Oostende. Cb's forecast with gusting winds. Then another stop enroute. Cb's in UK today ?? so would not be arriving till Saturday at least. Please let me know of any further events in future, I will keep my Kroner!!!. Did any one else make it from UK ? May look at the Rotax fly in at Wels? I have just fitted my trim motor two days ago so this was good timing! so i did per the instructions and cut off the required tread and butted the plastic forks together. I then found that when the motor was fully extended out it would catch or rather bottom out on the cut out of the bell crank support. i extended the cut out after speaking with another builder and this allowed full travel of the trim motor. Tony, Your build experience will be enhanced by learning how to do DSub connectors properly. Pins and Sockets may be purchased at very cheap prices (even in gold plated connectors as I use). I use Allied Electric (alliedelec.com) as my primary supplier. All your avionics uses D subs. Garmin supplies and prefers the mil spec pins and sockets, but many others are available. I use Tyco (TE Technology) or Amp primarily. Tools you need are: A crimper (I use an Eclipse pro grade one, and my friend uses a Quest technology ratcheting type for open crimp type pins which crimp the wire and insulation for a great connection as well as my megabuck one.) (I use a Quest Tech for my barrel pin connector crimper.) Even Radio Shack has pretty good tools. A D sub pin and socket extractor tool will be necessary. A good wire stripper. And you will find 9 and 25 pin are the the most common used in the aircraft. Connectors are only a few bucks, hardware a couple more and pins come in sizes from AWG 30 wire to #18 and run about $.030. I also like circular connectors for my through the firewall and airframe to panel hookups. More tools and fun gadgets. After all, you built it, you can maintain it far cheaper than hiring someone. But you need to do the study and practice. If I run a wire anywhere, it terminates in a plug with a bit of a maintenance loop or S turn to facilitate maintenance. If it is electric, assume it will fail. Especially make sure you have connectors that are easy to latch where it is difficult to get to or work. Manufacturers make all different kind of connectors and hardware. I do deviate from the book when it comes to inspection holes. I believe an inspection hole must be big enough to work in, not just look and scratch your head to try to figure out how to fix something using tweasers and forceps while looking backwards through a mirror. I=92m sure there are some better than others, but I currently don=92t know any, albeit a ACS catalogue could narrow it down. So far, I have tried D sub terminals, as they are easy to get and easy to solder. Should I stick with them?? regards Tony Renshaw http://www.matronics.com/Navigator?Europa-List<http://www.matronics.com/N avigator?Europa-List> http://www.matronics.com/contribution<http://www.matronics.com/contributi on>

    From: Donald Cameron <fireflier@btinternet.com>
Hi Tony I believe the fouling is between the bell crank and the TS05 push rod. The following is a copy of a check to be undertaken as part of the final che cklist: Check that trim bellcrank does not contact TS05 push-rod when fully forward ( tab full down) and tailplane is trailing edge up. This can be checked by cyc ling the trim motor through its range whilst holding the stick fully back, a nd listening for any labouring. In my aircraft I did have the problem, as I also didn't know about shortenin g the clevis/fork ends. I therefore had to do the remedial work with the top on and was working single handed through the fuselage access holes. Not a v ery easy task to undertake. As Bud said there is not a big amount to be rem oved from the clevis/fork ends, just enought to ensure you get no binding be tween the belcrank and the TS05 push rod when tailplane and trim tab is in t he configuration as described above. Subject: Was electrical wiring now..... fouling of lower clevis on
TS03 Donald / Bud and all. The problem is NOT Connected with the TS05 Push Rod. It is the TS03 Bell Crank lever which fouls on the root of the plastic fork on the Clevis which is pinned to and drives the Bell Crank. The fouling happens because the two clevises are too long for the bell crank to describe it's geometric circle of motion with out fouling up in the base of the lower fork at it's fully driven position down. Please see Tony's photo and description I sent back to him and Fred below . and read the description I sent with the photo. Regards Bob Harrison. From: Bob Harrison [mailto:ptag.dev@talktalk.net] Sent: 22 May 2014 08:53 Cc: 'Fred Klein' Subject: RE: Europa-List: Electrical Wiring Hi! Tony, You shorten the plastic where both ends meet at position 2 on your picture . The fouling occurs in the base of the fork at the metal lever in the full travel down position of the lower fork which is hidden by the bracket in your picture . It can be witnessed by operating the motor to it's end limit and you can hear the motor labour as soon as it fouls. I don't recall how much I removed but I would guess 1/8" but I don't remember if it was from both or just one. I suggest you do one first then do a trial run if it still fouls do the other similarly. I'm sorry but I would have expected someone in real authority to have come on scene on this issue by now? I'm beginning to wish I hadn't put my oar in the puddle ! Further note:- YOU DO NOT TRIM THE FORKS ANYWHERE BUT THE THREADED ENDS ENABLING THEM TO BE CLOSER TOGETHER on the threaded rod. (Contrary to more recent suggestions on here.) Is that right, and do you remember how much you cut away? Do you recall what part actually does the binding?? I've numbered the pic below. Regards Tony R. Tony I'm thinking it is detail that is not in the manual and you only find it on final check through and then have to piss about getting back into it to dismantle it to effect the work. If not done it stresses out by binding up in the root of the clevis before the end of the travel as others are now confirming ! Good luck! Do you recall if it is in the instructions? I notice on Fred's pics they are butting together with no visible link rod. Will go out and look at my own setup when I properly start my day. Whilst I am not wishing to "enter the fray" about the issue of connectors it occurs to me having looked at your photo of your servo and the plastic clevises to ask if you have shortened them before connecting them with the piece of threaded rod? You are headed for some hassle if you haven't, since you won't get enough trim through the operating range of the Stabilators without the bottom clevis fouling up on the operating lever at the end of the travel range.. ( I think that was the best description of the problem but check it out Fred before you close it up with the top on!) Regards Bob Harrison G-PTAG

Hi, pls count me also on! That means 1 from Finland (one Europa Speedy Mono) =93 booked Hotell Borgholm Sorry for late sign up for EAN 2014 Fly Inn. That=C2=B4s because I had a mid-range tech issue which I managed to sort out finally today =93 there was a bad crack in the muffler /silencer (that=C2=B4s why I have had a serious CO problem). Totally new system has been installed and it seems to work well. A very first flight was four hours ago, just after sunset! That included climbing to 3000 ft and some stalls clean /w flaps, couple touch & goes and a little X-country flight from EFTP to (over) our home and back to homefield. That was also my personal first Europa flight 2014. It gives happily no CO any more into cockpit but a lot more noise & rumble. A good reason to have good DANRS headsets (Beyerdynamic HS 800 Digital Indv). In this rare case (isn=C2=B4t that so that usually you do get some weight penalty after every single modifying?) a weight penalty was minus 3 kilos and I felt there was a lot more power available! Stb-side exhaust manifold comes slightly out from the lower cowling so I had to do some minor re-design for it. See you in Borgholm, Sweden. Today!!!
