it's journey's end !
Hi! Still in the interests of flight. A Europa plenum splash moulding being
used as a swallows flight launch platform ( amongst other things such as a
drip tray !)
In the roof of Roger Cullum's workshop. Even with the roller door open the
parents will fly through a window gap of about 2" vertical by doing an
expert "wing over".

I was slightly sad to read that some people would "rather not use the Europa company
if at all possible". Like everyone I will always try to source cheaper second
hand parts but if that is not possible I am very happy to support the company
as I have always found them very helpful and useful. As an aircraft owner,
especially a home built like the Europa I think having the type-support of
the Europa company is an invaluable resource to us all and should be supported.
Ps. I believe they are on a two-week summer shut down at the moment and are due
back on 23rd June.

Sorry I don't agree I asked for some seals for the brake master cylinders about
2 months ago I am still waiting.
About a year ago I needed a new silencer which I thought would be a stock item.
No it took months.
Europa used to be great you explained the part and it arrived the next day but
since the two helpful guys have gone you need part numbers.

I have always had prompt service, no complaints.
Ordered parts for the Door mechanism - turned up a couple days later.
End of last year ordered the silicon hoses for the radiator to engine - couple
of days.
Just ordered a set of aluminium panels for planning a change to the panel layout
- next working day.

Subject: | Noncontact fuel level indicator |
Andrew, since you are writing code you might like to incorporate compensation tables
for the shape of the tank so you get a linear scale.
The system I have is a variant of Tony K's that weights the fuel with a 0 ~ 1"
pressure transducer. The fuel sloshing and tank shape compensation is done with
a PIC Micro. It has worked flawlessly for 10 years.
Cheers, Paul

Subject: Re: Europa-List: Noncontact fuel level indicator
I will take some photos and write up some details in a few days.
The idea was based on what I accidentally observed one day when holding a flash
light to the fuel tank. When the flash light is held below the fuel level, the
entire fluid lights up. When the flash light is above the level, the tank lights
up. The contrast across the fluid level is about 10x. This is due to light
being trapped above or below the level. See attached pictures.
So, I made a board with four LEDs in a column, and another board with
10 photodetectors in a column. Using a microcontroller, I am flashing each LED
in sequence, and then computing the liquid level based on the measured contrast.
The output is displayed on a 10-bar display. The LED board will attach to the
aft of the baggage bay bulkhead, with four holes to allow the light to get
through. The detector board has to attach somewhere on the front side of the tank.
This might be the tricky part because I need to make sure it is secure, but
also removable and does not interfere with the controls.
