Subject: | ICOM A 24 handheld radio |
Al while ago I bought the above radio. I took it with me religiously as a
back up on the basis that you can use it in flight and in the event of an
off airport landing it might be useful. Today my X air which as been
excellent up to now went intermittent.
I thought ok I will just fire up the ICOM. Well it didn't work or rather
not with a headset. Further research on the web suggests that despite
having a headset adapter in the box, there are problems getting it to work
with a headset. If you cant use a headset then the value as a backup is
questionable.
Has anyone had this issue?
I would welcome suggestions for handheld back up radios which do work with
headsets...
Thanks

Sporty's SP 400 works great with the optional GA audio adapter supplied by
Sporty's. If you don't want to key the mike on the unit you can also hook a
mic switch in line with the headset audio. Works like a charm alongside th
e SP400 which is cradled with a RAM mount to the instrument panel. I had in
stalled radio problems and the handheld really got me out of trouble a few
times!

I use an Icom with a Lynx headset with a paramotor. The headset is especiall
y made for this and works very well. But of course you would need to carry a
spare headset.

Subject: | STOL enhancement? |
Thinking about my next a/c and I'm really after the CH750 STOL capabilities - but
the CH750 cruise performance (and styling) puts me off that a/c. Wondered
if anyone had seen or attempted any enhancements or developments to the Mono or
TriGear to achieve this?
Partial-span leading edge slats to the existing touring wings might be an elegant
solution . . . [Idea]

I received a call from a client who inadvertently misplaced his gas

Come to find out, the caps changed in or about 2003. All caps on
newer XS kits have a smaller cap and ring (65mmOD).
What to check.
If you have a fuel cap supplied with your kit made by SPRL that
measures 70 mm OD on the gray cap, these caps are no longer in
production and the new 65 mm caps do not fit properly. Aircraft Spruce
and Wicks do not have any old style caps in inventory.
Classic caps and the newer XS kits are available but the cap and
flange have to be bought at an average price of about $60-$70. On the
older pre 2004 kits if you have the 70 mm cap and you wish to upgrade to
the newer style, you will have to cut the fuel ring out and replace.
Not fun especially since the diameters are different.
Please review the pdf document attached for details on the
differences.
I am putting together a special order for my Custom Flight Clients
for the older 70 mm caps through Newton SPRL. The price is reasonable
and less then current retail. I highly recommend that older XS kit
owners purchase a spare in the unlikely event your cap may disappear.
We are not supplying the key lock. This is a one time shot as it is
coming out of my pocket for the R&D. I cannot expect the current Europa

=85t=92would be way above my pay grade=85sounds like a project for Nigel

final to touchdown with a nominal headwind is engraved in my brain as it
being just so slow=85so impressive.
As for any improvement in TO performance, assuming you=92re already
spinning up a flat-pitch CS prop, how about a bungee?=85or some RATO

gtagr,
Forget adding leading edge slats to a Europa wing unless you are an aero
engineer and extremely, and I mean EXTREMELY, well versed in composite
construction. =46rom building complex molds to vacuuming bagging, etc.
The best thing that anyone has attempted so far is to add vortex
generators to the wing to lower the stall speed. I=92m not sure that
would help with takeoff, maybe, but sure would help on landing slower.
The Europa already has some pretty impressive short landing and takeoff
capability. Not in the CH750 STOL league but might be good enough to
suffice for your needs. When taking off to the south on my home field
(KTDO) I can be off the ground by Taxiway A2 and on landing I can easily
land and turn off on A2 without strong braking.
Find someone near you and see if you can get a demo of the capability or
a ride.
