Subject: | Icom a24 headset adapter squealing |
There was a question recently about the headset adapter on the a24, which squealed
when transmitting. I checked mine again, and discovered it also squeals if
I used the handset's ptt switch. It does work fine however if one uses a ptt
switch plugged into the adapter, which is how I had used it.
Cheers,
Pete

Tony,
All good advice IMO: carefully inspect the inside as much as possible,
do not try to remove the wing lid, find a local solution.
http://www.europaowners.org/main.php?g2_itemId=37071 shows my wing
before bonding the lid on.
As you can see I removed the mass balance box mold tops before bonding
the lid on.
After bonding the lid on I laid up on the inside of the box to the lid.
Advice of Neville Eyre.
I hope this gives an idea of what is aimed for.

I need to sort out this problem. Has anyone come across this before. Will I need
to open the wind again (if that is possible) or can I install the reassesses
at this late stage.

Pete
that would be me.
I resolved the issue in two ways one of which is festooning the headset
cable with Ferrite Cores as per the attached. Very often you can get
ferrite cores from old computer cables, and as I am a chronic hoarder I had
several (and whenever I throw something out I find a need for that very
same thing within a week)
The second thing you have to do is make a PTT which fits in the third
smaller socket on the adapter. The radio PTT doesn't seem to work when the
adapted is fitted.
Also this morning I fitted an adapter for the rubber ducky to the top of
the fuselage of my ICP Stol.
The whistling doesn't completely go away but it is controlled, coming back
much reduced for short periods which can usually be stopped by moving the
wires about.
With all these mods I got range and quality are similar to the panel
mounted Xcom.
yours

I agree with Jans advice...I had to remove the wing closeout and you cant
do it without destroying it. Its a messy job to do.
