I second the Nigel comment as my a/c is a XS fuselage with classic wings . I never saw anything like that during my build. Phil George . Hello Tony, It appears to me that this may have been the previous owners cheap way of adapting the control columns from 1=BC inches diameter to 1 inch to allow the fitting of one inch hand grips, rather than going for the cranked control columns of mod 54. I suggest you measure the internal diameters of the parts in your photograph to see if they are 1=BC inches at one end and 1 inch of the other. If so, check your control columns and see if they are 1=BC inch aluminium and straight, rather than the later one inch diameter steel and cranked. Mod 54 explains: "Several types of hand grip are available for aircraft control columns and the most common diameter of column they are made to fit is 1". "The reduction in diameter from 1=BC" to 1" demanded that the control column be made from steel rather than the existing aluminium alloy to cater for the maximum load that may be applied." The full details of mod 54 are on the company website at: http://www.europa-aircraft.co.uk/pdfs/modifications/Mod%2054.pdf The change in diameter for the mod is accomplished by inserting a sleeve, but if you wish to retain the existing aluminium columns and merely change the diameter to allow one inch handgrips to be fitted, then the parts in your photograph may do this. Of course, I may be completely wrong and your unidentified parts could have absolutely nothing to do with the control columns! This probably won't help with the current unidentified parts (they aren't shown here) but here is a composite (no pun etc) photo of all the XS kit hardware parts, not including larger items like the control sticks themselves. Some of the part nos are recognisable by their label - CS is Control System, FL is Flaps, LG is Landing Gear etc. You can see, at bottom right, the CS01 control stick bottom fittings that your mystery parts resemble - hence the general thinking that these might be some sort of mod in that area. Tony, I can categorically confirm that this is NOT a Europa part and should not under any circumstances go anywhere near your plane, let alone a primary control. It is not even of aviation quality. Your photo shows a rolled and seam welded mild steel tube with stamped holes. The nuts and bolts look to be cadmium plated hardware-store quality mild steel with the probable tensile strength of cheese. Proper aviation quality steel tubing is always seamless and the hardware will only be hight tensile AN spec. Holes in aircraft quality components will be drilled, not stamped. What you have is a jointing component used on something like mass produced garden furniture and is used to connect two tubes and was probably shipped in error with you kit. Builders do tend to store garden furniture in and around their kits in the garage once they have lost their "building mojo". If you find any other curious bits requiring identification, do post up a picture. Nigel, you crack me up.... Builders do tend to store garden furniture in and around their kits in the garage once they have lost their "building mojo". Tony, hopefully home on the weekend. Next week maybe I can help with some parts identification.
