Subject: | Re: Min turns on rod ends, and a stick height dimension request |
Hi Tony,
When I bought my aircraft -this was 13 years ago- I discovered that the pilot stick
was about 2 inches shorter than the copilot's. For some reason the builder
had decided to shorten it. This was making the pitch control very sensitive,
especially in the landing phase. I made an extension to bring the stick length
back to the original configuration and this made my landings a lot easier.
As it is easier to shorten the stick than lengthen it, my advice would be to keep
your stick as it is until you have flown your aircraft for a while, then decide
what length works best for you.

Hi Tony,
My sticks are unpainted, uncreased & uncracked.
I would be looking to change that based on your final photo.

notice a distinct crease where the beginning of the crank occurs. It is on the
inner edge, and appears to be the inner point of a bend, at the end of a vice
gripped section, as the bend is made by pulling towards the operator, if in
fact it was done in a vice, which I very much doubt. So, the actual radius of
the bends looks fine, but on the inner portion of a ben, on the ends of the central
straight sections between the bends, there is what appears to be cracks.
There is no doubt they are manufacturing marks, and I would like to ask if anyone
else has an unpainted stick, if they could inspect theirs and see if they
are the same. I am not going to paint mine now, but possibly coat them in a
clear polyester coating, like you put on polished floorboards, so I can look through
it and inspect it from time to time, if in fact I dont get these replaced.
Any help appreciated, and here is a few photos to highlight my concern.

Subject: | Ultimate Ventilator |
Hi all
Have just purchased a couple of ultimate ventilators to fit under the windscreen
either side of the fuselage just forward of the doors.
I saw them fitted to a Europa at Sywell and thought they were a good solution to
the ventilation problem.
My question to those that are flying and already have them fitted is:
Do you have any problem with water ingress when it rains?
I notice that there is no rubber seal or anything fitted and there is quite a gap
between the centre flap and the circular frame when it is closed.
In fact, I am a bit disappointed with them as they have no positive closure device
and can be pushed open from outside when fitted.
I can imagine a lot of rain entering the fuselage when the aircraft is stored outside.
Hope I am wrong because they were bloody expensive.

I've hade no water enter though them. Once you paint them the gap gets smaller.
They work quite well for me.

I have something like you describe in my Europa G-LDVO and find them a simpl
e and effective solution. Have flown through some rain and no problem.
When parked outside the pic shows the cover over the vent in front of the do
or.

Hi Kelv,=0AWas it mine - G-CFKZ? There is a small circumferential gap, meta
l to metal, of about 0.010". These units provide superb controllable ventil
ation compared to the original units. Have not noticed any problems with ra
in ingress or water after washing. In flight, with vents closed, there is a
slight draft through the gap.=0ARegards=0APeter Morgans=0A=0A=0A__________
