Subject: | Coming Soon - The List of Contributors - Please Make A Contribution |
Today!
Each year at the end of the List Fund Raiser, I post a message acknowledging everyone
that so generously made a Contribution to support the Lists. Its my way
of publicly thanking everyone that took a minute to show their appreciation
for the Lists.
Please take a moment and assure that your name is on that List of Contributors
(LOC)! As a number of members have pointed out over the years, the List seems
at least as valuable a building / entertainment tool as your typical magazine
subscription!
Assure that your name is on this year's LOC! Show others that you appreciate the
Lists. Making a Contribution to support the Lists is fast and easy using your
Credit card or Paypal on the Secure Web Site:

I would like to thank everyone that has so generously made a Contribution thus
far in this year's List Fund Raiser! Remember that its YOUR support that keeps
these Lists going and improving! Don't forget to include a little comment about
how the Lists have helped you!

Paul,
A word of advise.
The Dynon Pitot with AOA (heated or not) is a good pitot, but the AOA is
not effective (in my opinion) unless the tip is near the leading edge
and dropped down using the now pretty standard Gretz mount.
As the air flows beneath the wing, the relative wind 4-6 inches off the
lower surface is nearly parallel to the wing lowr surface up to stall.
However, within a few inches (no more than about 8, it is not bad.
As for static ports, I was not impressed with the side ports in the
Europa. Especially with the flaps down on the old Classic. Slipping
did induce errors.
I prefer on all my IFR Europa's to use the XS pitot tube for the A/S and
the static for all instruments. This is dirt simple, the parts are in
the box, and since the Dynon pitot is located on the other wing, easy to
plumb.
Consider an Alternate Static Source. The Cockpit Static is quite good
in my flight tests in the trigear and mono over the entire speed range,
unless you have some sort of pressure ram air system with a tight
cockpit... Just in case you are flying in extreme icing as a death
defying feat.
I do not use a certified alternate static source valve. I install a
simple toggle valve which looks like a switch in the panel. Marvalve

Hi All, Just getting the pitot system installed & am wondering where
the best place for the 2 static ports should be? Ive already installed
the Dynon AOA/PITOT probe in the wing thus leaving the static ports to
be mounted. I'd like them near the front to keep the tubing runs short
if poss. Any ideas please? Paul Munford. Kit 625 trigear. THANKYOU

In my Classic I used a suggestion made by a Canadian EUROPA builder:
Installing three static ports, each equally separated 120 degrees from each
other located on a circumferential circle just past the rear (XS) baggage
bay).
One locates fuselage bottom centre (to let rain water flow out), the other
left and right, located about a foot higher than fuselage side centre line
where you usually would find the dual static ports.
I have no issues detected when flaring high, very little with slipping. Spe
ed changes neutral. Works like a charm. No special fittings each either. Ju
st reduxed an aluminum pipe ending for each port inside the fuselage and dr
illed through the fuselage three small 1/8 inch holes (drill only through o
ne side) of the pipe.

Subject: | Re: Resin Systems |
Hi Craig,
Thanks for the detailed reply. I built my classic foam filled winged Europa with
Ampreg 20, and I am sure it is a toxic product. I got flu symptoms and often
a headache after using it. The West Systems 105 I too have been using on smaller
jobs, and I find it a far healthier product to use. I have no effects, and
only hope I did myself no harm with the Ampreg 20. It has been that long ago
I used it that I hardly remember, but I do recall wearing my respirator for all
the big layups. I dont mind the West Systems with the exception I believe it
doesnt wet out as well, also I believe it may not be as strong in shear, easier
to pry off a substrate (unzip as I call it). Still, the forces should normally
not be shear forces that "peel" a layup off a substrate, so the effective
strength is surface area based, not point load based with a perpendicular load
pulling th le layup up and away from the job. I just got the wind put up me
when the Long Eze expert said he would not use it as a structural resin. I interpret
that as a system that entraps "loaded fibes" in a matrix, and as my smaller
layups, like the door reinforcement ones, U believe the West should still
be ok. I am though going to look into Aeropoxy and any other the list recommends.
Problem is as you know,
In Aussie it is hard to get certain reains systems, and in the old days I would
get Ampreg 20 with half its shelf life remaining, straight from the manufacturer/agent.
Thanks for the input.
Regards
Tony Renshaw
