Hi Clive, I did this mod almost 20 years ago and I don't have any photos. Of course the recesses in my tunnel sides are now covered with dark fabric and don't show well in a photo. Only two points to make. I don't think it's necessary to cut recesses into the tunnel which remove the top edges of the tunnel. My recesses look similar to your proposals, but stop about an inch below the top edges, thereby retaining that extra bit of tunnel strength. This doesn't compromise the increased comfort afforded to your hips. Having completed the concave recesses in the foam and done the lay-ups in the hollows, while progressively rubbing away blue foam on the other side I would determine the depth of foam still needing to be removed by occasionally pushing a thin needle through the foam until it touched the concave layup and thus served as a depth gauge. My battery is on the Port footwell, I took two power and the two earth(s) through using brass studds just above the battery position. All the low current stuff went through on a couple of 'D' connectors mounted on one side (engine) above the battery position , the plug plugging in from the other cockpit panel side. -------- Graeme Bird G-UMPY Mono Classic/XS 912S/Woodcomp 3000/3W Newby: 135 hours 32 months on the Mono g(at)gdbmk.co.uk Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=434342#434342

Thanks to the several folk who have kindly sent to me pictures of their firewall on the engine side. They have been helpful (and more are welcome if you have them), but looking at them has raised a further question. Im planning to fit the Skydrive carb heat kit, which gets its heat from the water system and fits between the carbs and the intake manifolds. It will cause the carbs and airbox (plenum chamber) to be a bit further aft, and I wonder how much room Ill have for things fixed to the firewall in that central area. Can anyone whos done this already tell me the distance between the firewall and the aft face of the airbox when the Skydrive carb heaters are fitted to a 912S on a XS fuselage? in friendship Rowland | Rowland Carson ... that's Rowland with a 'w' ... | <rowlandcarson@gmail.com> http://www.rowlandcarson.org.uk | Skype, Twitter: rowland_carson Facebook: Rowland Carson | pictures: http://picasaweb.google.com/rowlandcarson

Rowland=2C On my XS/912s/skydrive heater the distance is exactly 100mm. But my carb he ater is the original one. I believe the newer one has different measurement s. Hi Martin. I too am building a classic and have thought about this mod. I have put it off until I have put in place the under carriage and brake lever to get an idea of what space will be left inside the tunnel and also how close you will be to the wheel. If you could send be some photos of your tunnel too that would be great. Also did you make up a temple to get both side the same? My email is spcialeffects@aol.com. Many thanks Frank Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=434361#434361

    Subject: Stern post access panel
    From: "spcialeffects" <spcialeffects@aol.com>
Hello all. I would like to make an access panel in the stern post in case I need to remove the long control shaft and also to make it easier for access into the tail end For maintance. My inspector is a bit dubious about cutting into the post but I said to him that I got the idea after seeing that G-IANI has a vent from the D panel to the stern post. So my question is, is there a mod for this install on G-IANI? I'm not aware of a mod ever being requested for this. If you are building a mono wheel with a tail spring, then this might not be a great idea as the stern post will carry some of the weight of the aircraft on the ground. If on the other hand you are building a tri-gear, then would think that the stern post will not be subjected to any great loads that low down, so it shouldn't be a problem. G-IANI is a tri-gear. Hi Nigel, Why would you worry about the sternpost carrying some of the load? The way it is reduxed in, well I would think it should make no difference as it is such a strong member. I for example am building a Classic, but have incorporated a sternpost. My tail spring sits quite tightly in the sternpost, and mine is a mono wheel, actually a taildragger. Id like to know if anyone else sees this as an issue? Regards Tony Renshaw P.S. I have thought of reinforcing the tail area nevertheless, as that hole for access is a big one. > On 23 Nov 2014, at 11:23 am, Nigel Graham <nigel_graham@m-tecque.co.uk> wrote: > > > I'm not aware of a mod ever being requested for this. Thanks for the reply Nigel. I am building a mono, classic. With the tail spring bonded to the stern post I can see how some load would be transferred into the post, however unlike the tri gear vent photo I am putting back what Iv removed which must strengthen in back up a bit?
