Bud - thanks for that reassurance. I was quite surprised and worried when I discovered
how much the weight of the outriggers affected the previously-crisp up
position of the flaps.
There is one thing in the manual that seems a bit unclear and perhaps you can clarify
it for me. In Annex E it says:
"Check that the bolt through the slot in OR5 is 5mm (3/16) to 7mm (1/4) from the
end of the slot when the outriggers are down.
Which end of the slot should that clearance measurement be taken from? One of the
bolts in my OR5s is about central in the slot (so about 5mm clearance each
side) and the other is quite near the end of the slot (although I cant now remember
_which_ end). Both outriggers are firmly locked down.

Hi Rowland,
It's the forward end of the slot where the gap is important. It's so that on the
ground the flaps can "bounce" up and down due to the natural play in the system
without unlocking the outrigger. If the gap was too small or non existent
then if the flap bounced up when say taxying over a bump then the upward movement
of the flap might unlock the outrigger.

Jon - thanks for that info. I have the nasty feeling from memory that the bolt
near the end of the slot is indeed at the forward end. Ill have to check again
when next rigged. If that is the case, I wonder what my options are to correct
it?

Dear All,
I have purchased new silicon hoses from Stefan in Sweden.
Before I fit them I want to make some heat shields to put on the cylinder 3 and
4 exhaust pipes to protect the radiator hoses.
To avoid having to go to the airport then remove the cowl just to get a size can
anyone tell me what the OD of the pipes is please (Rotax 912 UL)?
I am thinking of a simple stainless steel clip wire locked to the pipe with a semi
circular heat shield attached to it.
If anyone has had any good or bad experiences doing this (such as cracked pipes)
and what to avoid I would be interested?
I have also purchased (from Amazon USA!) Themo Tec insulator sleeve which I intend
putting on the silicon tubes. Belt and braces!

Yep. Bob Berube first showed me and it is simple. I use 2 in tube cut in
half with a drove lug or post welded on for MW-4 attached. Put 3/32 silico
ne cowl seal in the tube and clamp it on. I prefer this if there is no acc
ess in the aft end.

I've had good luck with the thermo sleeve as protection and never did build
a heat shield. We do not put wire wrap to hold the sleeve on=2C as airflo
w is important. Works OK.
