Frank, I have flown with the system you describe for 13 yrs - an Andair mini gascolator + drain valve, mounted on the baggage bay upright and accessed by a flap under the fuselage. I orientated mine to be vertical in level flight, (thinking this would let it be as efficient as can be), and have found no issues with it having 7 degrees backward slope when on the ground. I have incidentally never found any water and precious little else after the first 50 hrs when gunge was appearing from the fuel system. I am at the moment installing the fuel system, pumps and gascolater, under the port side baggage area. I haven't yet topped out which makes it all the easier. I am about to make a hinged flap under the gascolater, however when the aircraft is on the ground, on its own wheels, I want the gascolater to point straight down so it's easy to drain, replace the filter etc. So my question is.....using the top edge of the lower fuselage as a datum what angle should it be at in order for the gascolater to be positioned to point straight down? > Many thanks Frank > > Read this topic online here: > > http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=451517#451517 [1] > Links: ------ [1] http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=451517#451517 [2] http://www.buildersbooks.com [3] http://www.matronics.com/contribution [4] http://www.matronics.com/Navigator?Europa-List [5] http://forums.matronics.com

Sorry it has taken so long to get back to you, but I had to go to the hangar yesterday to take a picture. I thought I had some pictures when I did the work. I think I did the cut during the first condition inspection. I found I just could not get into the back to check things out. I made the cut straight down from the "D" (F08) spacer or hat rack. If you look closely at the picture you can see the cut between the "D" spacer and the bottom panel Then straight across the baggage then up to the "D" spacer. I made the bottom cut 1 inch above the curve section on the bottom. I then re-enforce the panel with three layers of 2" fiber-glass tape with 1 inch on the outside of the cut. I laid the panel flat and let the resin dry then installed nutplates along the backside and the bottom of the cut. I later found the bottom flange cracked out because of my weight during the inspection. I had to go back and re-enforce this section. I then had to use a 1 inch pad or board to keep from lying on the flange. If I did the work again I'd cut the curve so it would be flat and the screws and nut plates would be on the bottom of the floor and nothing would be sticking up. Hey Richard, Bill Moreland here and I have recently purchased a Europa XS and have been reading this matronics .com site ttying to find other owners close enough to me that we could possibly meet up occasionally at an airport or wherever to chat about these planes. Was wondering where you are located? I am in Bedford,Pa. I also see that you are 6,5" and Wondering how you sqeezinto an Europa? You must have a mod that widens the cockpit a little Huh? And where would I find out about this? I am only 5,9" and find it quite snug. Would love it to hve more elbow room. Well if you can make sense out of this email I would welcome a call from you. Maybe just to give me an idea of how to find other local Europa owners and your experience with the Europa community. Thanks Bill Moreland 814-977-5123 On Wed, Dec 30, 2015 at 3:54 PM, Richard Scanlan <aspenbuild@me.com> wrote: > > Hi Gary, > I'm 6'5 and with the high top mod find my mono perfect even on long trips. > Maybe the tallest Europa owner! > > Richard S > > Sent from my iPad > > > On 30 Dec 2015, at 21:26, gleinberger <gleinberger@millersville.edu> > wrote: > > > gleinberger@millersville.edu> > > > > First, I am glad to see there are other properly sized people flying the > Europa. That looks like it makes life much easier. I see you're flying so obviously it hasn't affected the structure, Is there any rule when you substitute a panel for a bonded structure in terms of fasteners per distance. I still haven't installed the bulkhead and so have the opportunity to modify it on the bench as it were. I suppose that I could simply make a single panel incorporan the D panel instead of the two that you have. Thanks thats helpful William Daniell LONGPORT +57 310 295 0744 On Thu, Dec 31, 2015 at 11:30 AM, AirEupora <AirEupora@sbcglobal.net> wrote: > > Sorry it has taken so long to get back to you, but I had to go to the > hangar yesterday to take a picture. Hi David, thanks for the reply. I remember reading somewhere that the mono had an 8 degree pitch. Looks like it doesn't matter too much anyway from the other offline responses Iv had. Many thanks Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=451573#451573
