Here is a picture my system:
- a reed relay in the gray heat shrink
- a magnet that only activates the reed relay when the gear lock is down
The reed relay is connected to a small box with an arduino that reads out the serial
stream of a Dynon D10A (for speed and climb information) and lights up a
dual color led on my panel according to the following scheme:

Somewhat to my dismay, (tho i dare say it would have been a little more
dismaying in flight) I have discovered loose connection to the trim. I
suspect the connection twixt 5 core wire and trim motor.
I did thoroughly check it before i put the top on.
I think I need to get the trim motor out as I cant see a way of getting to
it to check the wires.
Is there a trick to this?
Thanks Will

If you have two trim controls, one on the stick and one by the trim display p
erhaps, then there is a relay between them.

Subject: | Getting the trim motor out |
Hi! Will
I had a Ray Allen Relay deck fail on a dual trim control system. I had a
problem which wouldn=99t reverse the trim until it reached fully
trimmed nose up mode . Once trim up had been engaged it would not
reverse until the motor reached its full limit , then it would reverse.
I may add that this scenario was very hairy since the stick loads were
so intense it needed the passenger to assist. In the end I used to
allow it to go momentarily fully up without restraint , but it took some
=9Cguts=9D to allow that . You would not land the aircraft
with full trim up loads held on the control stick.( not withstanding the
loads encountered would test the controls to the limit!)
I had this issue twice and Ray Allen on both occasions claimed it to be
a wiring installation issue ......not their motor or Relay deck. On the
third occasion , I discovered that they had introduced a MK II relay
deck and on discussion with them they advised that they had discovered
an inbuilt fault in the Mark I version of the deck in that as soon as
the fault was reversed it hid the fault of failure to reverse. I had to
ask them ......they did not volunteer the information and twice actually
insisted it was a fault in my wiring
I changed the relay deck for the Mark II supplied at a discount and have
had no problem since. However not before having
=9Cpulled=9D the motor twice on wasted errands!
I had on original build predicted the necessity to remove the trim motor
and arranged it=99s mounting with =9C home brewed=9D
stiff nuts held in place specially for such a =9Cjiggery
pokery=9D issue . So you will get to change the motor with great
difficulty ! Be well advised to check out every last detail of motor
and relay deck and even change the MKI deck for a MK II as a matter of
course prior to =9Cdigging=9D the motor out !
Regards
Bob Harrison G-PTAG .

Mine just became intermittent, no uncommanded runaways.
Will, if you don't have more than just the one rocker switch then you would n
ot have a relay.
