Subject: | UK back-up VFR instruments for EFIS |
A friend has asked me to perform the flight tests for the initial permit issue
for a nice little 2-seat VLA and he seems only to have an EFIS with little else
by way of "steam-driven" instruments for VFR back-up. The only photo I've seen
doesn't show the panel clearly.
As a retired commercial pilot, it seems to me that permit light aircraft should
be subject to the same requirements as certified VFR aircraft i.e. a bare minimum
of ASI, altimeter and magnetic compass. I've seen CS-VLA 1303 Flight and
navigation instruments "The following are required flight and navigational instruments:
(a) An airspeed indicator; (b) An altimeter; (c) A magnetic direction
indicator" but I can't see any reference to whether this applies to permit aircraft,
or whether an EFIS alone is enough.
What should I do? Decline to carry out the flight tests until suitable back-ups
are installed, or just do the flights and hope that the friend (trainee pilot)
has researched this topic for himself and satisfies whatever requirements he's
discovered? His aircraft is several hundreds of miles away from where I live

With advice from my Uncle, Kim Prout, I threw those right in the trash. I purchased
some air vents from Vans Aircraft. If your going to fly anywhere hot, like
southern California or Alabama, then the NACA ducts just don't provide enough
ventilation.
They are the same in size and function as on aircraft spruce, just cost less.
Just my $0.02

Hello all,
I received a 3D printer for Christmas and wanted to try and create parts with it.
I was in the process of cutting the relief out of B16 for the brakes and wanted
to test it on a model before I boogered up the actual part.
I took the measurements in put them into turbocad. Never used a CAD program before
but found youtube videos helpful in the process.
>From there I use the 3D printer software to convert the file into something the
printer could understand and printed it out. Once printed I made the cuts to
get an idea of what I needed to do on the actual part. I have posted the STL
file on if you want it.

These are used for the air vents? Most people i talked to about these didn't rate
them and advised ultimate vents instead, which is what iv opted for.
